View Full Version : How Can I Gain Weight?

David

I figure this was the appropriate section for this

I'm 6' 130lbs soaking wet and whether or not I've taken a piss and shit that morning also. I would love to be able to gain 30-40lbs. I'm pretty tired of being a skinny little shit. I'm sure it's gods blessing or whatever, but fuck it.

I don't have any eating problems except for I never gain weight. Period.
The average human would probably see some weight gain off what I eat, but I see nothing. I do have some what of an active lifestyle, but not to the extent that it would burn off a whole bunch of anything.

What do I need to do? Someone mentioned some creatine something or other. But I know jack shit when it comes to stuff like this.

I eat all the fucking time though.

Hell yesterday I had a salad 6 chicken strips and order of fries, plus 3-4 rolls to go with that. Fo dinner I had a 16oz prime rib, baked potato, grilled shrip on the barbi, and 2 loaves of that brown bread from Outback. Went and had 8 beers, came home and had 4 peanut butter sandwiches and 2 glasses of milk. And that's an every wednesday thing. Sundays I eat a whole Chicken for dinner and mashed Potatoes. And the rest of the week it's all miscellaneous stuff, but it's always tons of it. With hot dogs or sandwiches of some sort.

Its always going to be hard for you to gain weight, work out some, see what you can do over the course of a month or two, youll increase your eating anyway because of increasing your appetite while working out on a schedule...
More weight, less reps...

As for suppliments, I have no clue, never tried any...
Im sure there will be some advice though...

I seriously think I could debunk the whole "Supersize Movie" from the weight gain standpoint.

Good thing about having rent houses. When people move they leave a lot of shit behind. My weight set was free too. :D

Anybody have any recoomendations on what weight gainer to buy? I looked on GNCs website, but got lost on what half the shit was talking about. :o

Man, just go and buy the biggest bottle of the flavor you like of muscle builder/weight gainer. Might not hurt to throw a little creatine into the mix.

There's no way to pack that many caloies into a pill or two. The up-side to weight gainers over plain protein powders, is that they can put sugar in it, so it tastes alot better. Get yourself a big bag of 2000 calorie mix, and add two of them to your diet. Don't waste your time with creatine, just eat, eat, eat, and sit on your ass/sleep as much as possible.

I wont have much trouble covering the eating and sitting on my ass and sleeping part.

You don't need the creatine at this point, but if money's not a problem, it's already in there. The cocolate ice cream is a great way to add calories, and make it even more palatable, but milk works fine.

Weight gain powder is a bitch. You see what you have to do and say fuck that. You have to mix 3 8oz cups of powder, with 24 oz of water or low-fat milk. OK. You're mixing 24oz of powder with 24oz of liquid.....do the math. It's basically going to be a powdery pudding. Plus, the stuff is expensive as hell. Like $24 for 3 or 4 servings.

It's $30 for 5 servings, or $6 a shake. Cut the portions in half, and that's 1100 calories for $3. Aside from fast food soaked in saturated fat, you aren't gonna find an 1100 calorie meal for $3, including the whole foods store. Not to mention the "labor" involved in prepping that kind of meal at home, shakes aren't quite the devil drink that you make them out to be.

The empty calories in that crap aren't anabolic, and worthless for bulding lean mass. Eat "right" for a few weeks, and bust your ass in the gym, and you'll see the difference. There have been times when I'll actually break out in a light sweat minutes after eating a meal.

I've been there I went from 5' 7" and 128 To 5' 9" and 170 and a about a years time. In order to gain weight I started working out for regularly and cut my cardio workout down by half. I changend my eating habits from eating a bunch crap fast food to eating alot of lean protein. I also didn't started gaining good muscle mass until I hit 21.

Granted, I am 249 lbs with about 14% bf currently, but 240ish and 8%-10% is just right around the corner.

I used to be skinney when I was in my mid 20s, I think I was 185 something. Then I started working out & got up to 195 & now I walk around at 205 & don't even try, Alot of it is your age. If you are young, then your metablisam(HOWEVER IT"S SPELLED) will burn off alot of what you eat,

When I was working out My meals where as follows for every day

Breakfast
2 yogarts
3 packs of Oatmeal
Protein shake

Lunch
2 chicken breasts
1 can tuna

Dinner
PASTA PASTA PASTA
2 cans tuna
Protein shake

before bed
Protein shake.

You eat like that & you will mass up quick & then there is always DECCA :D

"I feel you pain"- I graduated HS @ 6'3" & 125lbs- holy cow! Now I am @ fluctuate between 215 and 220lbs, yes almost 100lbs heavier.
How?
EAT- I eat 6x's per day, 500 to 600 calories per meal=3000 to 3500 calories per day, you must eat every 2.5 to 3 hours. I try to get 30-40 grams of protien w/each meal= 200-240g per day. Eat good foods, lots of fruits and vegies...stuff your body can use. You can pig out on fast foods some, not all the time. Use protien or weight gainer shakes for your meals in between breakfast lunch and dinner. Take a good multi-vitamin.
LIFT- hard mass gaining lifts- squats, deadlifts, bench, bent over rows, straight bar curls...these require lots of different muscle groups, puts stress on your body to release growth hormone. Don't waste time & calories doing set after set of completly isolating lifts like concentration culrs. Keep you sets to 3-4, 6 to 12 reps- HEAVY. Give each muscle group time to rest, at least 72 hours.
DO NOT DO ANY CARDIO!
SLEEP 8 to 10 hours daily, if you can.
Research "Ectomorphs", that is the body type we are & will give you more good tips.
The idea is to tear down, supply w/constant source of nutrition, & rest to rebuild.
Be consitnant, each day at a time.
You will gain 1 to 2 lbs per day week...I promise.

Research "Ectomorph", that is the body type we are, we are cursed! but it can be done

When I was working out when I first started college, I was at 150-155, and just over the course of 4-5 months working out at the gym 3-4 days a week, and eating an extra meal, and just a few snacks a day I went to 185-190.
Lost a little bit of the muscle(and kept the weight in fat) when I went back to work full time the last 2 years, but back on track now and losing the fat, and so far my weight has stayed the same while im noticing muscle growth...
Still like to slim down some, but im trying to gain muscle mass, then ill slim up later...

Naaaa, an underachiever never reaches their goals that they set forth.
Everyone has different goals, the question is...Does one ever attain those goals?
Bigger isn't necessarily better...it's all about how you feel about yourself.
My problem is...I'm NEVER satisfied and always dawn on my flaws.

I used to want to be 220lbs ripped, and still get a kick out of watching the Olympia and all, I just don't care to be that big any more. Setting my sights on 190-195lbs in some ways feels like I'm selling myself short, but the other side of me realizes that there's a whole lot more to life than training, sleeping, and eating chicken breasts. I don't compete, so why put myself through that hell? Being a little lighter will help my wakeboarding, as well as riding my "little" 600. Life is a whole lot simpler when I'm not having to keep up with pills, shakes, and scoops of creatine. I'm striving for the cover of Men's Health now, instead of Muscle & Fitness.;)

As for being satisfied, I'll answer that with a "hell no". The leaner I get, the more I realize what it takes to hit 7%. At about 10% right now, I look "soft". Some call it perfectionism, I call it body dysmorphia. :o

you can only digest & utlize so much at a period of time (600-800 calories), make it count & like I allready said...6 meals per day, you have a fast motabolizm (sp?), don't go more than 3 hours w/o eating.

On the real though, get some Nitro tech Chocolate, it is pretty good and I hate the weight gainer shakes too. Do some creatine as well, it will make you build mass and weight. Don't use alot of Creatine, and do not stack it like it says.

Other than that get on a quick cycle of steroids. They are not bad until you start to abuse them. That goes for anything though....

There is an easy solution to that, EAT MORE and workout less :D

In January everyone has their New Year's resolutions to get to a target weight. I would love to be back at 250ish, but since I was already around 280 I figured that 300 was much easier. So I told all the women in my family that 300 was my new goal :D Right before school started back up I was at 299.6  Now with school in session I eat better and workout more so the weight is coming back off. I guess its just another New Year's resolution that I didn't get :)

Don't get me wrong, I am a fatass, but I'm not that bad. There's a decent amount of muscle hiding under the fat. Two years ago I was at 250 and pretty lean. Since then I have surely put on some muscle, but unfortunately plenty of fat too. I'll never make single digit BF because I enjoy eating too much and don't have the discipline to cut that low. Besides, everytime I start to hone away on the fat with diet and cardio something happens that prevents me from working out. Lately it has been injuries or sickness. Getting old doesn't help either :(

Of course Chuck is so old that he is almost dead and he is in much better shape than me

No alcohol. That stuff will strip the weight right off. I was like you when I was younger, 6' 145lbs, I stopped drinking and started supplementing my diet with gainer's fuel daily. Adding 2000 calories made a big diference. Pretty soon I had more energy and started lifting weights, and the mass just piled on until I hit 225, and then I was at a plateau. I never got back into it much, but I maintained a much healthier weight from then on.

Couple things I noted. I need a blender, mixing for 30mins does dick. On the plus side the 1/16th of teh shit I managed to drink wasnt to bad tasting if I could get over the tiny chunks. Which I failed.

Other note, holy fuck 3 scoops is big.

Yep!

I like a big mixer because I can walk away from it. I used to much so much other shit in my shake. I would add honey, a banana, 2 eggs, bigass scoop of peanut butter, little chocolate syrup. Good as shit!

Yeah I'll look into the hand blender thing. I dont really want to buy an electric one just for this shit. But it honestly wasn't bad. Just the powdery chucks getting stuck in the teeth amongst the horrible texture goin down my throat made me want to fucking throw that shit up.
