So I just got back from Thunder Valley MX in Colorado where Round 7 was held yesterday and, as all serious followers of the sport already know, RC put the hurt on them yet again. But back to Bubba. He turned in a solid second place finish in Moto 1, but he must have been bummed that RC beat him by about 14 seconds and probably could have made it worse if he had felt pushed. In the second moto, Bubba got a terrible start and put in a totally uninspired ride. He worked his way through the pack, but Windham passed him at the end to drop him to 5th (to the very vocal delight of the crowd) for the second moto and 3rd overall. Here's the part that gets me: James didn't even bother to show up at the trophy presentation, leaving the AMA crew and the OLN broadcasters scratching thier heads. It was RC and Millsaps hoisting their trophies and spraying the crowd with champagen like the excellent ambassadors of the sport and good sponsor representatives that they are, while Bubba sat in his trailer and sulked. How do I know Bubba wasn't hurt? Because we parked right behind his rent-a-car in the AMA lot and he and his Dad and that bodyguard dufas who hangs with them came strolling out 30 minutes after the presentation. For all you Bubba fans I have one question: What's the appeal? He goes fast, but only on his terms.
For you Green Believers, you have a new hero to watch. Ryan Villapoto is the real deal. He went 1-1 yesterday and laid an RC-style-thrashing on fast guys like Hepler, Alessi and Short. He's just 16 and it looks like he'll win that Lites title in his Rookie season if he stays healthy -- especially since Short went out with a DNF in moto 2 yesterday.
