My second 7900GTX came in today, and last week I got my second set of 2GB of ram.
This will be my last upgrade until DX10 cards come out (I'll wait a few months after they are released to upgrade).
But I only tested WoW, and i will test out some other games later on. I gotta do some homework before school.
Here are the pictures

believe it or not, I don't have a "real" job. I just build computers like mine for other people (at a profit of course). I do need to get a 9-5 though, can't afford my SS with this side job, so if you know anyone who's hiring shoot me a pm!

Looks very nice. I have the same case, motherboard, 2gb of that memory, and the EVGA 7900GTX. I spent probably 2 extra hours getting my cabling routed and tied as neat as possible. Very clean install.

Only thing I hate bout the DFI mobo is how the video card hits the bridge next to it. My video barely fits because of it. I had to change heatsinks :(

How much would a setup like yours run? Just curious as I need to build a new system soon and I've been out of putting a system together for quite some time.

I bought the cards second hand, i had a 7800GTX 512MB which I paid nearly $700 for it at launch. And I ended up selling it for $290 shipped. The first 7900GTX I bought it for 385, and the second one I bought for 360 both off of Ebay.
The Crucial ram was about $350 like 6 months ago, but it was died twice. So I bought the G.Skill for less than $200 off of newegg, and the crucial just sat there since than. I RMA'd it and really didn't have any reason to sell the new ones so I just used them all. The CPU was $520 shipped (And I tried 3 of them, sold the other two as they were poor overclockers). The mobo was $200, first one died rma'd it, second one died, and now this is third one which has been going strong for awhile now. Sound Card was $130. The PSU was I think $140. And about $400 dollars worth of hard drives, cpu fan, optical drive, and other fans. Mouse, KB, speakers, Windows is about another $350, and the display was $299. The case was I think $100 if i'm not mistaken.
So yeah alot of money :(

i could put together a computer that would run bf2 VERY well for $300-$350 easy, so i'm going to have to say this is overkill.

My computer isn't for BF2.
I do alot of video encoding, editing, and playing games (oblivion, fear, wow)

All that on a DFI motherboard. Should have went with MSI.

My experiences with MSI aren't listed but trust me they weren't good.

Frozencpu.com or xoxide is where I got those from. AC Ryan has some really nice ones too.

I highly doubt it will do all that with the same quality/speed as mine.
Sure its possible, but I want the fastest and the absolute best. And I have accomplished that in my eyes.

Cool, ill have to check it out. My ribbon cables arent as nice, they are folded back, and I also have 2x DVD drives instead of one. I also have the X-Fi platinum with the front I/O so thats an extra ribbon cable I have to manage. Here is mine...

I really think it's funny how repeatedly in this forum people talk about our computers being overkill or wasting money. Isn't this site based soley on overkill. I don't need a stroker motor in my 87 hatch but it's damn sure nice to have it in there. Exactly the same thing with our PC's. My car and my PC are my hobbies. I enjoy getting the most performance out of both. Could I get by with a $350 pc? Yes, but damn sure wouldn't be as much fun. Running BF2 at 1600x1200 with all settings maxed at max FPS is a choice and one I really enjoy. My car and PC both will always be one or more upgrades/tweaks away from being enough for me. I will take a pic of my case setup tonight and post it. About the only difference is I am running a Thermalright XP90 heatsink and an X-FI Extreme.

When the new DX10 cards are out, sell me your old mobo/cpu/vid cards :D That is, of course, if you haven't cooked them :p

Good to know I have a buyer! They will be up for sale on here though. Depending what else is out at the time, I may do a complete overhaul or just sell both gfx cards.

I hope to have a Intel Core Duo and motherboard on the way soon. I will be getting rid of my DFI motherboard and AMD 64 3800(2.75ghz) and G.Skill 2gb memory kit.

Question to follow. Understand I was overseas when the DX8-DX9 changes happened. Some people I know are under the impression that say a 7950 GX2 will just need a firmware upgrade. Is that what happened during the 8-9 changes?
I seem to recall reading magazines that specifically stated DX9 compatible and so forth and do not recall reading anything about a firmware upgrade to accomodate the new DX on older cards. Am I mistaken?
Take care,
Roliath

Okay from a DX9 --> DX10 perspective, all DX9 cards will be able to run "under" DX10 but will not be able to use the new features DX10 features. Any DX card cannot be made compatible to a newer DX version via firmware.
You talked about the 7950GX2, those are cream of the crop and unfortunately they are not being utilized to there fullest potential because quad sli drivers are still buggy and the cards are not performing that much better than my 7900GTX SLI setup. Also ALL cards out right now, are not and will not be able to use DX10 features when vista is released. A firmware/bios/driver or whatever software flash/update will not make it a full DX10 card.
