not trying to hijack your thread or anything, but from what i've heard/seen the honda is the most reliable/durable of the 4?

Get a used R6 so you won't take a huge hit when you end up wanting an R1.

If you want a 600 - for a first bike .... You should just get yourself a GSX-R 750 insted .... in case you might wanna upgrade later.

any one of those bikes will be fine and have plenty of power. I know you said you there is " no need for the big boys yet". There more than plenty of power in those 600's. I started off on a 05 GSXR 600 and I love it. Its the first bike I have ever own. I tell you what just be careful and wear you gear and have fun. I have already had 3 friends go down this year. All of them are fine, just scraped up some. 2 of them were new riders one only had about 1200 miles on his bike and the otehr was about 4000.

if you're going for a new bike, I'd go with an R6-S. It's a little more comfy than the others listed, and less money.

if you're going for a little older bike, I'd go for an R6, which would be the same thing as the R6-S. '06 they had redesigned the R6 and kept the old model in production as the R6-S.

i'll agree with that. if you plan to do much two up riding then the banana seat is a lot better. honestly i would look into an f4i vs. the 600rr if i was you. nothing wrong with the 600rr, but as a first time rider the f4i would more than meet your needs. plus you will eventually go two with someone. what better way to impress a girl than to throw her on the back with you.

i sold my bike on saturday and my only ride home was on the back of a 1000rr. wanna talk about scared outta my mind. it was like riding on slippery plywood all the home. not to mention that i was sittin' so high i felt like i was in a truck. lol

636. The extra cc makes it the best "street" bike of the bunch. Plus the green looks killer :D

Retail R6 - $9,200-$9,500 depending on color selection
Retail 636 - $8,700

There is no question the R6 is a better bike on the racetrack, but the 636 is a better bike for living on the street. The new R6 is knocked for its lack of midrange power. Read the July 06 issue of Sport Rider (600 comparo)

1) this is true
2) i'm not going to be riding on the back of my own bike anyways
3) they don't go good with the lines of the bike, and look like shyte!

but getting a R6-S would be a different story. a friend just got a new ZX-6R. I rode it and felt all crunched up. R6-S that I rode was a whole different story. much better for street.

R6S= $8300.

well, I'm glad your girl likes the feel of a seat cowl up her ass.

isn't a 919 pretty much a naked 900RR, lol?

Be better to throw a leg across a few bikes before deciding what feels better for you. Just my $.02. I rode my friends 600RR after he bought it because he had no license, insurance, and hadn't ridding in a few years. Shit it felt like I was sitting about 2 feet above the bike with the way the tank is on them. Maybe I'm just used to my R6 but it really felt like I was hovering over the bike while I rode it.

i am partial to the 636...maybe cuz i own one? there are good points to all of them. the 636 is the fastest 1/4 mile in 600 class, but suffers on the corners. the r6 has a weak low end, but pulls VERY hard in mid and upper rpm's. gsxr has a new fairing design so if it is laid over, it will cost a lot less to fix. 600rr is a good performer all around, but not as comfy as the others.
these are my opinions on the new bikes. hope it helps out.

i agree w/ a couple of people about going and sitting on em, as for me the hondas seat was too hard and didnt feel like it would be comfortable cruising, the 636 was too crunchy feeling for me, the two that felt good were the R6 and the gixxer i liked both and both came in red so i went with the best deal i could get, the best i could get on an 05 R6 out the door was about 9,150 and i could get a Gixxer OTD for 8,316 so that is what i went with, i love it and wouldnt get anything else, even though if i did upgrade it would prolly be a 1000RR  but bottom line, get whatever you will feel the most comfortable on because first bike that is the main thing, just my .02....

As long as it has to do with the bike, and not who rides one. My point being that if my best friend rode an R6, ad I decided I like the way it rode too (which I obviously do), I wouldn't let that stop me from owning the same bike.

ah. someone with an R6S. I think those are the best deal to get at a dealership right now. Though, I am partial to naked bikes with v-twins and wouldn't mind having a SV-1000S for about the same price.

I'd have to agree with everyone that said go sit on them and see which one feels the best to you. If you cant make narrow it down to just one go with the one that looks the best to you, cause they are all fast and if this is your first bike it will be a while before you can ride it to its full potential.
