A buddy called me last night while I was getting to work frantically asking me questions about an 05 CBR1000RR as if it was going to suddenly vanish from his grasp. He was asking me what an 05 1000RR was worth with only 3000 miles on it. Apparently he stumbled across some poor soul in desperate need of money that just lost their job in Rhode Island or some other east coast city and they are selling their brand new 1000RR for $3000.00 to the first lucky person that jumps on it. Only thing is he will need to allow a third party to handle the transaction because they are out of the county right now..so all he needs to do is wire the money to this third party and the bike will be delivered with a title, 2 helmets, a riding jacket....you know the story
I had to take a moment to think of what to tell him...a very deep breath..and then calmly ask him "just how really fucking dumb are you?" I wanted to grab him thru the phone and shake him to sense. He REALLY WAS going to do this!!!!
I did my best to explain to him the scam he was about to get fucked on without making him feel like a total dumbass but it was hard to control my thoughts.
I CANT believe someone I actually know almost fell for this shit.

I know he is. I do my best for my friends to prevent them from making huge mistakes and luckily he called me for advice. I want to think he was at least in some small way questioning his own judgement and greed by calling me for advice. I busted a scammer in Cycle Trader about a year ago trying the same bullshit. This particular one was in a suburb of New Orleans...so I told him I was going to drive down and pick it up in person and pay cash upon inspection. He declined and I reported it immediately to Cycle Trader. They told me the ad had been canceled about an hour before I called them. I also have busted a few of them on Ebay. Its sad to think how many stupid people fall for these scams, but these bastards wouldnt keep posting them up if some people werent falling for them.

A guy I used to work with fell for that. Except it was a busa. He kept telling me oh they have insurance blah blah blah. He did it anyway like a moron and lost some of his money. People are gulable (sp?) these days :(

Whatever happened to that dfwstanger that did the same thing?

We all told him it was a scam to warn him, he basically told us to fuck ourselves, logged in several times, but never posted about the bike again.

I sell, so I see the other side of this. Monday through Friday people try to pay with fake personal checks and money orders. Saturday and Sunday they try to pay with fake cashier's checks.

Sometimes they get angry. I had one guy that wanted to buy a bike from me on a weekday, had to do it that day with a check. I asked him where he banked and he told me Wells Fargo, I said great, there is one next door (lying) and told him he could meet me there and just get cash. That was a no go, at that point he offered MORE than my asking price. He said he would go as high as $5500 (I was asking $3500) if he could just write a check and get it that day. When I said no he got downright angry, "what, what the hell is wrong with you, you won't take $2K more than you're offering just because I want to pay with a personal check blah blah blah"

I gave him lots of alternatives with the bank, waiting for funds to clear, paying with a credit card, paying a deposit with a credit card etc.

He cussed me for a bit and hung up, called back a week later on a different bike I was selling with the same story, had to be today, blah blah blah, I reminded him that he called me the week before, he just laughed and hung up.

I was selling a bowflex a few months back on DFW.com and I got a email wanting to buy it. The guy claimed he was purchasing it for someone and he would send me a Money order and was to western union the shiiping fees after the check got here. I was selling the bowflex for 850 and this dumbass sends me a check for 3800.00 and wants me to western union FRANK THE SHIPPER in the neatherlands the change. I emailed and told hell for the change I will ship myself and keep the remainder for the packing fees. He blew screaming he was calling the feds. I emailed him the feds direct number out and in fresno where the check came from, he swore I stole his money and it for his dying child.

So if they want you to send this to Frank The shipper get as much info as you can DO NOT SEND THEM SHIT and fwd me any info. I am trying to gather more info on this guy for the feds.
