You can't go wrong with Ad-Aware, Spybot, Windows Defender, or Etrust's Pest Patrol...
There is no 'one' that is best. Your best bet is to use at least three. I use Ad Aware, Spybot S&D and Windows Defender.
OSX Tiger works the best. I use Zone Alarm's security suite though and have been fairly happy with it. I run adaware every few months and it only finds maybe 10 missed pieces of spyware.

I run the McAfee corporate av and antispyware at the house but I also work there and support the product for a living :)

I agree with the multiple product approach the most. No one product catches everything. My arsenal is like this. Ad-aware (free-don't waste the money to buy the pro edition), Spybot S&D, then Hijack this if it is still there. The latter takes a little experience because it will let you remove things that are needed for other applications, but it can also clean up a lot of things that NO product can touch. There are a lot of spyware forums that will take Hijack this logs and give you advice if you've got a really nasty bug.

I would say etrust and spyware doctor. I would go with spyware doctor. I have had almost every good well known spyware program. Spyware doctor has been the best so far. :D
