anyone have photoshop

looking to get the adobe photoshop CS2. if anyone knows anything about it or wants to sell me it let me know lol. any others out there or is this the best program? i know nothing about it but need help, tia....sam.

Photoshop is pretty much the best photo editing/manipulation software that you can get without spending TONS of money (yes there are better programs, but they cost retarded amounts of money and are mainly used by top name design companies, productions studios, etc.)

Photoshop CS2 is massive, and there is a ton of amazing filters, etc. If you are new to this type of software, it could very well be pretty overwhelming at first. There is so much to see, so much to do, you won't know where to start. The 2 best ways to learn PS : --- Just play around with everything you see. Open a picture, create a few new layers, and have fun. Try out all of the effects, filters, actions, etc. and see what they do. --- Read. There are tons of great sites that have amazing tutorials that will show you things that will blow your mind.

cool thanks, is it good for designing stuff as well or mostly editing actual photos? or is there something better for designing?

you can design damn near anything with it, as long as you have a little artistic ability to begin with.

Gimpshop has been ported to win32.

Gimpshop is the linux "open source" equal to photoshop.

I don't know if it has all the same features but its free.

GIMPshop is weak. Get photoshop CS2. There's really no equal to any of macromedia/adobes products IMO.

I use adobe/dreamweavers products on a daily basis.


EDIT: be careful purchasing software such as adobe/macromedia products on ebay. I would only purchase the products if they were still shrink wrapped as they were when they left the companys possession.

Actually, The GIMP (and the GIMPshop modification) aren't "weak" at all. They're not professional level editing tools equal to Photoshop, to be sure. But depending on what you are wanting to do, more often than not, you don't need the professional level tool, when the alternative works just fine ... and is free.

Having used both The GIMP and Photoshop extensively, I'm comfortable in saying The GIMP is on par with Photoshop 5.5 - 6 (CS2 is Photoshop 9), with the exception of pre-press tools, and CMYK support. The GIMP supports Photoshop plug-ins... so comparing plug-in filters is pointless. The GIMP's scripting/automation is leaps and bounds more powerful than Photoshop's batch routines... but the added power requires you to learn a little about the scripting language.

Basically, unless you have a need for the pre-press and CMYK support of Photoshop, The GIMP (or GIMPshop) will be perfect. If you're just wanting something for photo editing, touch ups, designing graphics for online and/or gaming use, etc, there's really no reason to use the professional tool when the free alternative is also probably more than you'll ever need.

You can start off with GIMP, I'm sure anything you learn from it will be useful to you if you deside to use Photoshop in the end. I use gimp to modify images and create webpage images so it's good enought for the things I need to do. Photoshop is great, but like people before me have mentioned photoshop can be overwhealming.

I agree that GIMPshop isn't a terrible program, but I would find gimp more comparable to Elements rather than Photoshop. I have actually only tried GIMP when I was running linux and I probably only used it for a total of 10 minutes. From what I hear, though GIMP/GIMPshop are very comparable to Photoshop elements which only costs about $100 and comes bundled with a lot of hardware such as scanners and digital cameras.

Nah, Photoshop Elements is crap. GIMP is way more powerful than that. If you've only used it for 10 minutes, you really haven't used it. GIMP can do everything Photoshop 5.5 - 6 can do, other than pre-press and CMYK.

Photoshop Elements is made for kids, grandparents, and non-techie mom's and dad's who want to do simple touchups and cropping of their digital photos. The people whom just want a single "click it and fix it" button for things like red-eye and sharpening, etc. They don't want to mess with all the different settings that you'd have to with Photoshop, or The GIMP.

I got the full CS2 suite for an advertising class of mine ehre at Tech for $230!!!! It was thru a licensing agreement with Adobe. All the programs are incredible.
