it had every element of racing a big bike, except the speed, cost, and danger. i got over 2.5 hrs of track time for a whopping $60. i'd definately say the "fun factor" was almost up there with the big bikes.

i was on an aprilia rs50 which has to be the slowest bike known to man. on the "big" straghtaway it might have hit 45mph, and was pretty slow getting there. but once i got used to riding a 2 stroke and the layout of the track it was a lot of fun. i'm sore as hell, since its just a .5 mile track you're always moving around and constantly shifting.

my favorite part of the day was when i was exiting a left turn, and drifting to the outside of the track. a guy was just starting to pass me on the outside, and it normally would have put him in the dirt, but he literally stiff armed me like a running back to give him more room. :D all while we're going a whopping 15mph.

i might have to get me a little ysr or dirt bike to motard out.

it seems like the hot ticket is to put a xr100 motor into the ysr/nsr chassis to make it easier to ride. or just get a little dirt bike and put some street tires on it. a little bit of fab work, but nothing complicated.

Sounds cool. I just browsed ebay, and people are proud of those little bikes. $1800-2500 for a 88-92 YSR. Saw a couple of Aprilia RS50's as well. They look pretty sweet.

What type of dirt bike would you modify?

I've been doing it for about a year now and I think I actually have MORE fun on minis that I do on big bikes. If I crash I just laugh and bend back whatever hit the ground, and keep riding. I'm looking at ordering a Pitster X2R at the end of this month, they seem to be about the most bike for the money I've seen. They can be easily set up between Motocross and Motard. I talked to a guy that can hook one up with an extra set of 12" motard wheels, extra rear shock, and billet throttle for $2200, but it will be cheaper if we buy more. There are about 4 of us in OKC ordering them. www.mxmotorsports.us and look under pitster X2R.

they race at the go-cart track behind the denton dragstrip, and another track in katy, towards houston. there's also a track in oklahoma somewhere, but i don't have any info on that one.
