i hear to put lights on something with no battery is a pita. You gotta replace flywheels and have stators rewound and blah blah blah, sounds like a pain in the butt. So are KTM dealers, what a bunch of dicks. YOu'd think they would give you some help considering your paying extra bucks for some crap just because its from austria. LOL Japanese shit is so much better, if only I could get a CRF450R with a 6 speed.....

Just sold my GSXR 1000 yesterday to buy a DRZ 400SM. People think I'm crazy for doing so. I've heard those KTM's are bad for the streets, they have a vary small oil capacity that recommends changing like every 500 miles. Also they need frequent valve adjustment because that is their race engine. I would get a KTM 625 SM for the street.

I had only one needed valve adjustment after my initial break in on my KTM 450 EXC.It has close to 2000 miles on it.Mine was a piece of cake to make street legal as well.I have maybe 60 bucks in all my street legal equipment.

i was looking at 2002 KTM520XC and holy shit, that thing was a freaking monster. Nick you should hollar at SMSRACING in denton, he is a KTM and GasGas dealer and a super nice guy. his name is Brian Storie. http://www.smsracing.net/ he also does bad ass suspension work, all around good guy. go on TCCRA.org and ask about him, nothing but good reviews.

i dunno man, i may just have to buy some wheels and new chain and sprockets for the 450 and do the old switcheroo until I can find another. I can easily get 60 plus HP from a CRF, and with 14-45 gearing it should go 120 MPH....

i went about 100 on my 600 and that was fast enough on a soft suspended bike for me.

i would just look into a used DRZ400e and do the conversion on it. you should still be able to get close to 50 HP on that and you would have an electric start and lights already. plus the seats are a little softer on them, not much, but a little.

elec start is heavy, and I dont need it. i could have a crf weighing 235 wet, and make 63 rwhp, top speed god knows

If you can get one street legal for not much hassle I would sell my stang so I could get one too! :D

That bike probably already has a stator and wiring for a light. Most KTM's do besides the SX models. They make street legal kits for those that include a brake light switch, headlight, and tail/brake light. Call KTM and ask them to be sure.

I wouldn't mind owning a Husky or a Husaberg for the street. Different and fun.

but a 6 speed KTM goes 99 mph with 14-45 gearing, and a CRF goes 96 with a 5 speed and 13-48 gearing. Imagine the top speed of the CRF with 14-45.

That would be pimp to see two crf motards tearing up the streets backing it into the mcdonalds drive through! :D

I dig the motard bikes. In 2001 or so there was a an older guy, 40's atleast, but probably mid 50's on what looked like an XR650, it was the first motard style bike I had seen. It seemed like everytime I saw the guy he was in no gear and in a wheelie. :D

If I were you I'd get something with some more muscle. My dad has a Drz 400 and I ride it when I visit and it is GUTLESS. I feel like my 125cc mini motard has more power. I would have to do extensive motorwork to be happy with a DRZ. Like it will barely clutch up a 2nd gear wheelie if you are standing staggered and bouncing the crap out of it.

There is an optional wide ratio tranny for the CRF450. It's a great addition for a motard.

The name of the manufacturere eludes me. It's on the manual, which is stored in a box in the attic. If I get the chance, I'll crawl up there and get it.

Regardless, I've had it for two trouble free years now and it really transforms the bike. Not so good for MX but for trails, cross country and motarding - it's perfect!
