Hey fellas, my dad (lives in Houston) got an old Yamaha Maxim 650 a while back but it has no title. He has tried unsuccessfully several times to contact the last person with the title, but this bike has been abandon for years.

I want to repair and use it to get around town, and someone was telling me I could file a mechanics lien and the state would send a letter to the last known title holder. If they take no action after a set number of days, my pop can get a new title.

Does this sound about right? My other question is can I do this for him here locally in Dallas since he dosent have the time?

I would love to talk to someome that has more experience in this area.

recently a friend of mine bought a car from a Pig auction .. and it had no title .. he filed for a storage lein .. and you can get the title in something like 3 weeks ..

All you have to do is 1st, do the necessary service wk to get the bike running and GET INSURANCE. take your reciepts for the parts you bought and an est on labor 4 putting them on. Be somewhat reasonable, but don't rape yourself. take all your papers to the local sub-courthouse & file a mech lien. Also make an est. on storage w/pictures showing the bike from broke down to being fixed. It ain't no Bul**it when they say pictures speak a thousands words. this backs up your statements & will not allow the orig title owner the opp to take it back w/out paying you back. I think it costs @ $100.00 or so but if the orig owner doesn't respond in 30 days, the state will award you ownership.
