One of my friend's bosses wants to race me. He just got this fully restored '69 Yenko Camaro with a 427. I'm sure it's on street tires so I'm not worried, but I'm just wondering how much power an average 427 will put to the wheels. He wants to race for a little cash so I'm just making sure I'm not in over my head. He's one of the more money than brains types so I'm hoping he'll be in full street trim not knowing what he's getting into.
BTW, I have ~400rwhp in a 3400lb car.

i dunno, but i'll run ya! :)
i don't know shit, but i would think some more details would be in order, like details on the motor. many 427s i've seen or heard put down anywhere from 450 to 500 rwhp and keep going from there. i'll assume you don't totally redo a kick ass ride and throw some junk in it, so my bet would be 500 or more.

If it is a squareport headed solid lift motor with the original 11 to one motor and he runs better gas then 500 or so. Nut if they set it up with a 10 to one configuration for todays crap gas then about 400-450.
My Oval Port 427 put down 362/378 and ran as good as 7.89 NA mostly ran 8.0s in a 4500 lbs truck. If his hooks an dis a Squarport motor he can run as good as a 7.1 to 7.4 all depends on hook on how well he can hook an dhis gearing and stall. but figure you need to be prepared to run 7.3 or so.
If he's got a 4 speed and is running on crap tires then you'd probably wear him out. Just make sure you lift and get on the brakes once you've got 5 cars on him because once it eventually hooks up he'll reel you in faster than Bill Dance after hooking a trophy bass.

Well if its got a 4 speed your in trouble.........my 69 SS with a Ls6 454 and a 4 speed was a freak to drive down the road. If he has any driving skills your dead, just ask CATDADDY, he has experienced the wrath of one. :D

Hopefully it is not a F.A.S.T (Factory Appearing Stock Tire) car. Some of those guys are in the 10's on bias ply tires. http://www.fastraces.org
More than likely it will be like a lot of the cars you see at the Musclecar Challenge in Ennis; smoking the tires and running 15's.

More than likely he'll be on street tires and have some crap leaf spring suspension. I've never seen the car but like I said, he just has more money than brains. I'll be on tire, with decent suspension, and a 4800 stall. Hopefully it'll be so bad off the line he'll just give up.

With a stall that big and you making 400rwhp and running decent tires you'll be one hell of a car to catch. ;)
You'll easily get 3-4 cars on him off the line.
I had a stang with 320rwhp and a 3,200 stall that would eat zo6s off the line. :D

The LS1 should run 6.90's or better. DMC runs better than that with about that power, stall, and probably weight ;)

Im bragging about beating Z-oh's. Those are high hp numbers for my 302.
Bragging about times before you run them is like thinking your penis bump is going to work cause the directions say so.

If it's fully restored and has the factory exhaust manifolds and exhaust, there's no way he will beat you. Just putting headers and exhaust on a 427 1st generation Camaro will give you 100+ horsepower!
