im sure even the Spurs fans on here can admit he was a great candidate for the honor this year. Hopefully he can lead us to 15 more wins before the season is up.

GO MAVS!!!

I'm happy for him. He was my favorite player when I was a kid and I still have my Spurs A.J. jersey. I hope Cuban pays him well because I'd love to see him take Pop's place one day.

Per some rumors, Dirk didn't get MVP :(

Congrats to Avery he definantly deserved it. Is MVP given out before the end of the year, because if he and the mavs win the title I don't see how he cannot be given MVP?

MVP is voted on at the end of the regular season. I don't think the results are released for a little while though.

Yeah the MVP is for the regular season. They also announce a playoff MVP if I remember right. That usually goes to the best player on the team that wins it all. (logically)

I don’t think Dirk will get it this year. Not to say his previous years weren't good, but it seems like you have to have a stellar year to show that you have "arrived" and then you can be considered as an MVP the next year if you keep the ball rolling the follow season.

Congrats to Avery! Well deserved.

4th in the ppg with 26.1, 9.7 rebounds, and career highs in assist and blocks should show he has "arrived," right? So, since he raised his ppg average to 26.6 and lead his team to a 60 win season he should have it this year. 7th in ppg and 15th in rpb this year. He has to be the most underrated player in the NBA.

To justify it:
05-06 Dirk Nash
PPG 26.6 18.8
RPG 9.0 4.2
APG 2.8 10.5
SPG .72 .77
BPG 1.02 .15
FG% .480 .512
FT% .901 .921
3P% .406 .439
MPG 38.1 35.4
Record 60-22 54-28

He owes some success to Coach Nelson (for banding some of the team together)...imagine what they would be like if they kept Steve Nash!
