Man thats one thing I never want to see again. Watching 2 of my cloesest friends collide on the highway on bikes. It was at around 7:00pm by walnut Hill. I'm not for sure if thats Loop 12, or 635 or what. But its right pass speedzone. One of the guys was riding a 06 R1 (its totalled), he walked away. But I just got off the phone from him and he might have a broken hipbone. And just alittle road rash (not much). He was wearing leather jacket and gloves(just bought them yesterday ) and a helmet.
Now for my other buddy he was riding a 05 Honda VTX (cruiser, not for sure if its total or not). Not gear, just some sunglasses, sleveless shirt and pants. He took a big hit to his head. The guy on the R1 said he hit his head on a city titty. He has pretty bad road rash but should be ok. Right after this happen he was trying to get up and walk. But he is still at the hospital and will be there for a couple of days. They don't want the open wounds to get infected. Also they are wating on the cat scans. If he wasn't such a big guy I think it would have been worse on the head hitting. He is like 6'2 300-350lbs. They prolly went down at around 75-80mph. I have no idea. I was about 4 cars back from them.

dude im sorry to hear about your buddies, i really am. but it sucks that the guy on the cruiser was ignorant enough not to think he needed gear. that said, i hope they both fully recover and someone learns a lesson from it all.

pretty much dumb riding, thats why I was like 4-5 cars back from them.
The guy on the R1 was switching lanes (passing a car to) going over the speed limit. Well the VTX was right behind him. As soon as the R1 made the pass and lane swap he saw a cop on the shoulder and hit his brakes. The VTX didn't see the cop nor realize he hit his brakes that hard. And then BAM they hit. I wish I had a cmaera with me to take pics of the back rim on the R1. Boy did that get all fucked up.
I hope they get better to but if they do decide to get back on a bike not to ride like crazy MOFO. Or its goning to kill them. Man I almost thre up in my helmet after seeing it. After I got off my bike I was talking to my buddy on the VTX and he is saying "how is my head" , I said shit your missing part of it. :(

Dang that sucks. Hopefully the crash will make a difference and some people will start wearing some gear because of it.

ahhhhh. ok sorry, im looking to get a bike soon and cant find one for a reasonable price around where i live. know any place to get the hook up. dont really need anything big. im 5'4 130lbs. and ive only been riding a short time only on friends bikes. i am mature enought though not to go out and drive crazy, seen people go down hard and seen the aftermath so im actually scared of them. need1 more for gas mileage than performance altough performance is nice...

Was it broken in the middle and one of the spokes completely off? My friend looped his R1 and the same thing happened to his back rim... and he was only going like 10 mph...... what the hell is up with yamaha's rims
(jk yami guys, could probably happen to any brand)

I rode up to the local gas station with just my gloves on  yea yea, I know.
I dont feel right if I go riding with out at least my helmet and gloves. I dont feel comfy hittin it hard with out my jacket and boots either.

I hope they both end-up being alright!! I know the feeling, as I've crashed on 635 before.:( I had full gear on, so I walked away with barely a scratch...... Is your friend interested in selling either one?:) :D

yea I just read that over there on yall's site. man that suxs
MattB- more than likely the insurance will own them now. How would he go about buying it back from them? just ask? Both of them was able to start after the crash and we drove them up on a a trailer. Now the impound has them.

A lot of the times, you can just ask the agent, they might let you have it back for the "salvage value" or whatever.

It's stupid enough to ride without gear, but to ride recklessly while unprotected is plain idiodic. He is waaaay lucky if that catscan comes back clean.
Matt, if you're looking for a build up bike, Mark's still got the '04 R6 he wrecked. It needs forks, a front rim, and all the plastics, but the motor's solid.

the cat scan came back fine. But he says when he leans up his ribs are hurting. He says it feels like one of them is floating around in there. He has hydrotherpy tomorrow. I bet thats going to hurt like a MOFO.
The Raven- I agree with you on that. Even I was guilty for not having all the right gear on Sunday ( a stupid part of mine cause I have all the gear). But now after seeing both of my buddies wreck and one of them get up and walk wihtout to many problems I know the gear saved his skin. I will alway wear my gear for now on.

Just practice what you preach man.
Even in this hot ass Tejas weather.
You can't let your Dad have all the fun with the car when it finally moves under its own power again. Can you? :)

Exactly what I was thinking. It's one thing to ride crazy but another to do it without gear. Glad it sounds like ther going to be ok, they have a great story they survived now. ;)

Why is it so hard to belive that leather will save your skin, that it took two of your buddies crashing to realize that?????? I just don't understand that

It's not hard to understand that condoms work, but for some it takes an itch that won't go away or missed period to get the point.

LOL!
Glad to hear your friends are OK musclestang89. And I'm glad it's a wakeup call for you to wear gear ALL OF THE TIME. The only time I don't wear my jacket and gloves is if I'm moving the bike back to it's cubby hole after washing it.

X2 I learned the hard way about gear and dont leave home with out it.
At the poker run I did this week end there was hardly a biker with gear and they told me I should get a cruiser so i wont have to wear gear . I told them their bikes fall just as easily, all they could say was "Not if you ride carefull"

That's what I try and tell a couple of co-workers of mine that wear a regular jacket (if even), plain gloves (not necessarily leather) and a half helmet. You can have a car or animal pull out in front of you just as easily as I could and the gear will save your skin. Anyway, hope they don't learn the hard way :(

update, he came home today but still in lot of pain. I thought he had bodily insurance on his bike but he doesn't think so. So that really sucks casue he is going to be hit with alot of bills now.
He did tell me today he has no need to ride a bike ever again. That was his first and last bike. he was still a noob at riding with just only about 4K street miles. The bike was brand new.
