Who do you think is the best defensive combo in the NHL right now?

Offensively or Defensively?

Offensively- Tomas Kaberle/Bryan - McCabe Toronto
Defensively- Nicklas Lidstrom/anyone....Seriously: maybe Zdeno Chara/Wade Redden - Ottawa.

For a young tandem, gimme Robyn Regher/Dion Phaneuf - Calgary

I would go with Chara/Redden or if you take a look at Nashville they have Timmonen and Zidlicky, who are both studs who fly under the radar

Zubov - Turco

Zidlicky/Hamhuis for Nashville were on my fantasy all season long, Marek will be good for a LONG time coming...especially if they team him with Brenden Witt in the playoffs. Witt is an underrated passer, gives a physical presence and will linger back on D to allow Zidlicky to shine in these playoffs for Nashville. In fact he may be one of the more important people on that team (Hartnell, Sillinger) in the next couple months. I feel bad, well not really, for Detroit fans if Nahsville and Detroit hook up in these playoffs.

I would feel alot worse for Detroit if Vokoun hadn't gone down with the blood clots in his abdomen(spelling?). They still have alot of pieces to make some waves in the playoffs but losing someone like him brings them back down from the contenders to pretenders in my eyes. Witt was a huge pick up for them as they finally have a bruising dman also, and the signing of Kariya doesn't look so stupid now.

its kind of hard to say Zubov is underrated as he has been talked about throughout the season as a Norris Candidate. The guy I believe to be completely underrated on the Star's d is Robidas.

I agree with that robidas is bad ass and he steps up when he needs to and plays very well. I think he has a lot of potential to be great if we can just keep ninnimma however you spell it off the ice a play robidas we will be solid in the defense area.

Yeah, but Lidstrom gets 5x the press that Zubov gets.

Zubov: 13 goals, 58 assists, 71 points, +20, 46 PIM

Lidstrom: 16 goals, 64 assists, 80 points, +21, 50 PIM

They are both around the same production, yet not even close in media coverage.

It will always be that way, just like if Zubov was playing for the Rangers again he would have the same coverage. Dallas isn't as popular nationwide so they play to what they think everyone wants to hear.

Edit: You could say the same about Redden, Chara, Timonen, Souray and countless numbers.

Robidas is a stand up guy. I used to talk hockey with him on weekly basis and he loves it in Texas. I always refer to him as a weeble-wobble because he will take the extra stride/extra time to make the correct play even if Georges Laraque is bearing down on him. Then he gets up and is ready to do it again. Trevor Daley will be a great defenseman in the NHL for years to come. Doesnt hurt that he lives a couple houses down from a friend of mine. Talking hockey with NHlers is badass!

I remember a few years ago when Laraque was messing with Roidas during a playoff game, and i started throwing stuff at him, then he came up to the glass and told me to come here, and i tried to climb the glass, and ended up getting thrown out.

I'm glad we got Robi back though.I was pissed when we traded him.
