Just curious as if I brought enough to the plate. I picked these up today for a price I couldnt say no to, should work well I hope. I'll keep you updated on the progress. :D

I got 2 Garrett T3/T4 turbos with 96 exhaust with 2 40mm waste gates and one 50mm other thingy and a pretty nice size intercooler. I hope this is enough to go fast!

Oh and one Toy Yorkie :D

I was told that the exhaust size might be to big but when he purchased them he was building a 383, I am going for 406 or bigger and not to mention in a lot lighter car.

Why should I buy bigger ones, you dont want these cause you cant go fast.

Thats going to be a bad bitch. Looks like I will be sniffing the ole' chevy II exhaust  Glad you decided to go turbo. But I am not 100% positive but T3/T4 turbos are relatively small I thought  I am not sure how they will do with all the C.I. Turbostang or Josh could tell you more then I can.

T3 turbines? If so, about 600-650 at the wheels at the most. If they are a T4 turbine, then quite a bit more. Intercooler looks a little puny though.

They are the T4 turbine, I was told they were capable of making 450 a piece. The intercooler is one of them cross bar things with 3 "inlet and outlet. Is anybody familiar with the power they are capable of?

The intercooler is a bar and plate. It looks bigger then mine and mine is suppose to be good for 1000+ hp. Go to turbomustangs and search T4. I am right now too ;)

Edit* What trim (size in mm) are the turbos?

Yours looks like a 3" core.

What type of intercooler do you have and what size turbos are the T4's? I am curious because I tried to search TM and all I found is stuff on T4 flanges and such. I am probably just too impatient.

Mine is a 27x12x3, I almost think its too big for the car. Is that about the same as yours or would it be comsidered bigger?

OrangeChevyII
04-19-2006, 10:23 PM
Mine are .96 on the exhaust and the intake side is a .60.

Those .96 turbines are going to be WAY to big. You may have to go with some .81s or even .69s.

Is a 406-434 not big enough? I can build what ever I need to to make the turbos work best. When they say the Turbos are capable of making 450 each.....does that mean 900hp plus the n/a power from the motor or 900 total?

total. basically a measure of total airflow capability.

if so , I think there is a metal recycle place near garland that will let you chunk those waste gates cause they suck!

Is a 406-434 not big enough?LOL! Hurley Blakeney made over 1800hp on a 262ci twin turbo Ford small block more than a decade ago. If it were me, I'd would keep the cubic inches small and size the turbos accordingly. The only real value cubic inches gain for me when the combo is going to be turbocharged is the fact that you can make more power on pump gas. A well built 350 with a couple of 450hp turbos is going to be scary fast in a car as light as yours.

I used .81 turbines on my 351W a couple of seasons ago and had good luck with them but it just didn't feel "snappy" after you release the trans brake. I switched to .69's later and they worked better for sure and the off-transbrake reaction seemed to be much better.

On anything more than a mild build those turbos will quickly run out of steam at +380 cubic inches. I'm with Kirk on this one, build a smaller motor and switch the turbine housings to at least .81's if not .69's. If you build a bigger motor - I'd stick with the .96's.....

I've installed that exact intercooler on 2 cars now, one of which just dyno'd last weekend. On this particular car it only produced IAT's at 120*@17 psi. They seem to work really good for the price of them.

Those turbos at "full power" should be enough power to go 5.7x in a good car.

A turbo'ed chevyII I am so jelouse! Thats what I want so bad but I am sure it won't happen for a while. Twins makes it even cooler. :D The other guy's are right as well, you don't need a big motor for those at all. Keep it small and get the right turbine housings and that thing will fly.
