According to Dallas News, this series starts Friday night. I haven't followed hockey as closely this year as I have in years past, but Dallas has still played well. However, Turco blew up and gave up 3 goals in 7 minutes against Detroit tonight, and I don't see that changing. He hasn't proven himself in the playoffs. I don't know that it will change this year. I think the Stars are talented enough to win it all, but Turco is inconsistent. Even though the Stars are the better team, I wouldn't be suprised to see them take us out as they did 2 years ago. Predictions?
Because we have home ice, I say Stars in 6.

I haven't watched as much hockey as I used to, but I kept up standings wise and games wise this year. Dallas was on a poll on espn as one of 4 teams most likely to be knocked out in round 1. I think it'll be close, but i'd say they can pull it out. Overall even though I don't like em, it'd be for the better for hockey as whole for dallas to go as far as they can. Hockey doesn't get the support here as it does up north, so if dallas goes to the cup, it will make hockey more notable here in the south.

I think we can pull it out if we play balls to the wall from puck drop to the very end. Not play half the game and then give it up in the end. Being consistent is the key. I think we will take it in game 7

Man, the Stars actually looked good lastnight. In the third they were just standing around watching the puck! 5 minutes left, and they decide to go with 5 defencman? I think they will do god in the playoffs. They look good this year. I just hope Edmonton takes Detroit out in the first round. That would pretty much guaruntee a Cup for the Stars.

Guranetee a Cup for the Stars if Detroit got taken out? I seriously doubt that. The East has some damn good teams in Ottawa, Carolina, Philly, New York, New Jersey and Buffalo.

Im not saying the Stars dont stand a chance but I think alot of people write off the East because of the new schedule and not seeing most of the East very often. Yes the Stars beat some of the teams this season but a 7 game series is alot different than one game here and there.

Buffalo took out the canes last night 4-0. They're goin against the devils for their 1st round...that's gonna be a bitch. NJ is on one hell of streak right now, they're 22-8 since the olympic break. Overall my sabers could make it, hope they do, but at the same time Ottawa put a spankin on em several times this season so...that's their bitch team to get over. Also they're 1-3 against the devils this season.
Dallas could definately make it all they way, they'd just have to have everygame go their way for it to happen. We all know that's not gonna happen so...we will see what events unfold through the playoffs.

It's a shame you can't see past your blind loyalty or even grasp basic reading skills. I'm not going to bother reposting a rule that was changed 3 months after the NHL fucked up, because we've already established that regardless of how wrong you are, even when the evidence is layed out in front of you, you'll never admit you are wrong.

they are on a streak (8-2 in their last 10) and Toskala has been outstanding. You seem to forget they started off really slow, then after the trade for Thornton they picked it up after the line up got more settled. There really isnt a better duo in the league right now than Thornton and Cheechoo, and with the goalie riding a hot streak into the playoffs, I would say they have as good a chance as any to make it to the conference finals. Im still standing by my prediction of Ottawa finally taking home the Cup.

It is more than just that line. The "Heavyweight line" with Marleau Bernier and Milan Michalek is humming along at just the right time. I'm not going to make any predictions until I see every game 1. I know its cheating but playoffs are different. The Western Conference premier matchup is going to be Calgary and Anaheim. Anaheim is on a tear and Calgary plays grind-it-out playoff hockey every night. Either team could easily win in 5 games...or it could go 7. I'm looking forward to seeing all the games. Hey Clockwrk, we need to have watching parties on your HD...and Hollywood, I'm TiVoing every game if you wanna see anything in particular.

you would think they couldnt but stranger things have happened. Plus they have others such as Marleau, Nimenen (playoff experience) and some good young players who work their ass off. Another move they made that really didnt make headlines was the signing of Matt Carle. He is up for the Hobey Baker and is a damn good young defenseman who chips in offensively.

I don't think Dallas will have to worry much about Detroit moving on. They have their hands full with Edmonton having to go to double OT to beat them. I give major props to Dwayne Roloson, the goalie for Edmonton, for facing 57 shots and saving 54 of them in the loss. Thats an insane amount of shots to face in a game, even one going into double OT.

After reading that whole third page, ya'll sure are a bunch of fair weathered mother fuckers. Either stick by your team or don't. When the Avs surrendered a 3 goal lead I wasn't saying put Peter Budaj in goal because Jose looked like shit in the 2nd period. The NHL is not the same as it was 2 years ago. A 2-0 series deficiet (sp?) means about as much as a 2-0 lead in a game. The Stars are a better team on paper than Colorado...as much as it kills me to admit. If the Stars lose this series it's not going to be Turco's fault. He's only as good as the defensive core in front of him...Zubov is the man, but it takes more than 1 good D-man to make a solid core.
On a happier note...my Avs are up 2-0 in the series and take it back to the Mile High City for 3 and 4. The series will be coming back to Dallas for at least 1 more game, no boubt adout it.

IMHO, Turco needs to sit out. I AM NOT a hockey player, so I can't be sure - but it seems like he sure likes to flop around on the ice alot. At Hedberg (sp?) is always as ready as possible and LOOKS to be alert.
The whole thing is not ALL Turco, but damn, he's gotta be a little more reliable. There were what, 23 SOG from Colorado.
Then again, it was pretty much Belfour that pulled them through several years back. I just think Hedberg deserves a shot at least. We are down by 2, nows not the time to try new things - but Hedberg pulled us through in the past.

Exactly I agree with that 100% Well said. You know let turco sit and get his mind back in to the game.
Letting Turco sit MIGHT give the team a boost for a game...or a period..or a couple of shifts....or just until Colorado nets one and the team's confidence is shot to shit again. Hedberg is not consistent and never has been. Now is not the time for Dallas to experiment. They should have done all of the experimenting in the regular season. Turco knows just as well as the rest of the hockey world that he needs to prove himself. Let him. If he can't prove his worth in the playoffs Dallas might as well start shopping for a new starting goalie now. Hedberg is not the answer. And to be quite honest, I think Colorado was stupid for getting rid of Aebischer. He has proven himself IMO and does not deserve to be sitting on the bench behind Huet. Theodore has looked like shit consistently since he came back and had it not been for the Avs solid D in the first 2 games they'd be down 0-2. Dallas' first 3 goals last night were all lucky bounces, followed by a semi-lucky goal by Modano. That game should never have been close...it should have been a blow out for 60 straight minutes. Granted, Dallas played better in the second period than they had all series, but they still didn't score those goals last night without the help of a lot of luck.

From what I saw atleast 3 of the goals Turco isnt accountable for. You can't have the turnovers the Stars are giving up and then not covering in their own end. As for the OT goal. Blame Turco if you want but a shot that changes direction from a tip around the hashmarks is one of the hardest plays to stop for a goalie. You either forget or dont know that Turco is the winningest goalie in NCAA history so he knows how to do it, but if the Stars want to dump him fuck let them, won't have any effect on me other than not liking them even more.

turco was a great college and is a great regular season goalie, but until he make the clutch save in the playoffs(like the sakic OT winner), the stars will not go anywhere. hey don't get me wrong im a huge turco fan, he's just not a proven playoff goalie yet. if we get two wins at the Pepsi Center that will prolly change that label.

I'm a huge Turco fan as well. I can't stand the Stars a whole lot, never have been able to, but I know a good goalie when I see one. Turco's vision of the ice is awesome and his positioning is awesome. He is also able to anticipate plays and shots better than most net minders in the league. He just can't handle the pressure of the playoffs. What good is a goalie who can get you there, but can't do shit once he's there? Patrick Roy wouldn't have half of the legacy he has had it not been for his performances in the playoffs. He has won more playoff games than any other goalie, ever. Despite his lack of performance ability in the playoffs, he's still fundamentally one of the best goalies in the league. In my mind, if Brodeur, Belfour, and CuJo were retired, Turco would be the best in the league.
So much for Barry Melrose's prediction of Stars in 5 huh? Go Avs!!!

Yeah that was a little harsh I think if we can just give turk a little help in front of the goal and score on the other end and also get a win he should get a little boost and settle in. We need that win though if we keep loosing he will never get any jump in his step. It is not all turcos fault.

If you noticed Mr. Hockey expert, Turco didn't even flinch on that OT winner. He was screened by his own D-man and an Avalanche player. You can't stop what you don't see. If the Stars would play SMARTER in their defensive zone, take an extra second to make a safer play they wouldn't be in this mess. Oh and Fuck Niinimaa. Daley=tits.

I don't claim to be a hockey expert. I really like watching the game though. It is possible that I got spoiled after that year with Belfour....
In addition, goalies will get scored on more this year then usual. We can bitch all day long, and argue. In the end none of us are at their level - so hopefully coach knows what the hell he is doing. I'd prefer to see Turco sit. He's had 2 chances and in the 2nd game it was more him then the team. I don't see how you can expect the team to stop all SOG for him. Watching the other games in the playoffs though, some of the goalies are easily stopping the same sort of shots - while others are also getting spanked.
I will say it was nice to see us more physical the last game. Lets just hope for the best from here on out. If Turco stays, fingers crossed - if he sits, figers crossed. :D

all the talk about Turco cracks me up tho. Nobody says anything about being on the powerplay for over 7 mins in the third period and producing nothing. The defenseman getting constantly beat to loose pucks because they are getting flat footed, turnovers at bad spots on the ice (within 3 feet of either blueline), or the top forwards not doing a whole lot in either end. Yup its all Turco's fault.

Very valid points...but if I recall right, they recovered more then not in the 2nd and 3rd of the last game. The 3rd there were barely any SOG - in the game overall there where about 23. It would be nice if he could stop more. The thing that really bothers me is he seems to be laying on his side a lot. I understand the purpose, but it does not allow for quick recovery. Also, he seems to chase the puck and lose position in front of the net.
Again, I'm no expert - those are the things I don't understand. I know why he does it, but it seems they should set rules of engagements for his puck chasing. :D

That's not true...I believe Minnesota did it against the Avalanche in the playoffs a couple of years ago with Andrew Brunette scoring the OT winner in game 7...the last goal scored on Patrick Roy. I can't remember if the Wild came back from 3-1 or 3-0 though.
Either way, Turco is getting the start in net tonight. I was surprised to see Weeks for the Rangers benched tonight. Not that it matters, last time I checked it was 3-0 NJ.
It will not be Dallas and Carolina in the finals. For the east it will be Buffalo or Ottawa. For the west Detroit or San Jose. Those are my guesses.

Thats how you work it! 2-2 baby!
Theodore is having big trouble with the puck, but we can't cash in on it. He's giving up some juicy ass rebounds.
That is the key for Dallas. They MUST capitalize on rebounds and get 2nd chance/garbage goals.

How much time do we have left on the PP when the third starts? Man, If we can just generate more SOG, and get the rebounds, this would be a breeze. Theo is really haveing a shitty time with those shots.

LMAO at all the Stars fans here. I've cracked up ever since I moved here 5 years ago at how everyone loves that team of chokers, especially Modano and Turco. They had a proven playoff goalie in the Eagle and they ran him out of town, so they don't deserve to ever win another playoff series. The Avs RULE, even without Forsberg.
