View Full Version : Mavs/Grizz...1st round

I know it's a little early but the Clippers got whacked tonight in Seattle. The Magic number for the Grizz to lock up the 5th seed is 1...either another win or a Clippers loss (which I expect against Dallas on Wednesday) and Dallas will play the Grizz with the 1st game likely being on Saturday. Memphis also holds the tiebreakers with the Clippers, so this thread is a safe bet. Anyway, here's the seasons results so far.
(4) Dallas (60-21)
Games remaining: 1 (1 Home, 0 Away)
vs. +.500: 1 vs. Div: 1
(5) Memphis (47-33)
Games remaining: 2 (1 Home, 1 Away)
vs. +.500: 1 vs. Div: 1
REGULAR SEASON SERIES
Mavericks lead 3-1
Nov. 26: Grizzlies 112 at Mavericks 92
Dec. 9: Mavericks 90 at Grizzlies 83
Feb. 1: Mavericks 81 at Grizzlies 80
Feb. 23: at Mavericks 97, Grizzlies 87
Mavs have won 3 of 4 games, but they have all been very closely played other than the Grizz blowout of Dallas early in the year. It will be a tough series, but I say Dallas will win in 6.
Predictions, thoughts?

Marcus (or anybody else), any idea when Round 1 begins for the playoffs? I need to start figuring if I need to take a night or two off from work to go to the games :D

Marcus (or anybody else), any idea when Round 1 begins for the playoffs? I need to start figuring if I need to take a night or two off from work to go to the games :DInitial reports I heard yesterday are Saturday...BUT, the Stars have home ice advantage and open against Colorado on Saturday at 2pm. I know they've done a very quick turn around before a few months back, so they could still start on Saturday, but they probably won't release the schedule until late tonight or tomorrow.

Keep dreamin.
Even with me being a die hard Mavs fan, he doesn't necessarily have to be smoking the good stuff to come up with that prediction. Mephis has the best D in the league and if they steal a game or two early in the series like Houston did last year - things could happen. I don't want to see it, but when you start looking past somone is when you get your ass whooped. I think if I had a preference....I'd have much rather played the Clippers.

Jose- like Marc said, the Stars open playoffs at home on Saturday at 2 pm. So hopefully that will bump the Mavs game 1 to Sunday.
We'll know tomorrow. It'll be on the Mavs website.

I agree, the Grizzlies are not going to be a push over. They allowed the least points per game in the league this season at 88.4 PPG. That being said, I like our odds playing the Grizzlies over the Clippers.

Just sat down here at the AAC. Very festive mood up here tonight. Should be an interesting series and I still like our odds against the Grizzlies compared to the Clippers.
20 minutes to tip off. LETS GO MAVS!!!!!

AWESOME first half for the Mavs! 60-51 Mavs at the half.
Dirk had a monster 1st half with 6-10 shooting, 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Dampier had a big half too with 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 block.
The Mavs need to be careful because they are on the verge of foul trouble with Howard, Diop, and Daniels all with 3 fouls.
They have done a great job shutting Gasol down with him being 0-5 shooting and only 3 points off of FT's.
I don't think the Mavs could have asked for a better first half to the opening round than that.

Dampier showed up to play tonight.Great first halfAgreed! Damp has a double double already early in the 4th period. If he doesn't disappear in the playoffs like last year, it improves the Mavs chances of going a long way even more. On a side note, Memphis has been shooting close to 60% for the entire game. Dallas needs to be doing something about that.

Memphis got to within 2 after being down by 12, but Dallas is really starting to pour on the D and the score here midway through the 4th...Dallas is up 96-82!
GO MAVS!!!

Big win for Dallas! 103-93 Mavs.
Dirk and Dampier showed up big time in this game for sure! If they continue to play like that every game, they are going to be REAL tough to stop.

I was very impressed with the center position tonight. Damp had 12/12. Add in Diop's numbers and we had 12 pts, 17 reb, 2 stl, and 3 blocks. Can't ask for more out of the center spot. Daniels also had a heckuva night with 13 points. Part of that due to Howard being on th bench due to foul trouble, but I'm hoping his neck injury is a thing of the past. If he can step up, it's just another dimension opponents have to watch out for.

mavs in 5...i would say 4 but you gotta think the griz will pull one out at home....great game last night...the griz shot almost 10% better and still lost ....i liked the hustle last night.
What got into Damp-rear?
Wish he didnt just play inspired b-ball three times a year. When he is in the right mind he isnt that bad... but you cant count on it.
If he could simply catch the ball without bobbling it he would be dangerous.
They are going to have to figure out who to put on Gasol..

They are going to have to figure out who to put on Gasol..
I thought that Damp and Diop would be too slow for Gasol but they actually did a pretty good job, especially in the first half.
That was my point... It took him a half to figure it out, but after he decided to go to the rack on them he had a lot of success.
Tomorrow night I expect them to start off with that game plan and the Mavs will have to decide how to deal with it.
He is alot like Dirk in that sense... if you put a big on him, he beats you with speed.. if you put a smaller guy on him he'll shoot over the top.
Either way I dont think Memphis has quite enough to stay with Dallas. I think even if Gasol has a good game that its still going to be hard for them to hang..
I do expect them to win a game in the series though.
Eventually with their shooting (and if Gasol has a great game) they will pull one out.
