It's Friday, I would be getting my car ready for a weekend spent going to Astro, Carter, or N. Dallas. I really do miss those days. I know that it will never be like that again, especially with the new laws, certain task forces. Now when I leave the track at midnight, I go home.

I remember some of the original Mustang groups, Street lethal in which I ran with, then there was Stangs-n-stuff, 5.0's for real, Arlington motorsports, Pony's -n- more, UFO racing, Mclure motorsports. I think that there may have been a couple more but cant remeber their names off hand.

I remember that guy. There was also a postal jeep, a little car that guys would have to push to get going but when it did it was pretty quick along with being loud as hell. There was an ATV that would race on occasion.

I remember the 1st time I experienced the night races out in Dallas, iot was in '89 and I had just traded in my 84 camaro for a 88 black G.T and a friend of mine in high school "Jeff Wheeler" took me out to Fenders on NWHWY. I was hooked. Later this guy Jeff bought himself a white G.T and was part of the UFO racing crew and I think he became pretty fast.

Valley Mills was awesome! (Street Machine Nationals - Memorial Day weekend back in the day)...I can second what BP mentioned...and the cops usually looked the other way all weekend (we even got one to one-peel a Caprice cruiser! LOL)

Royal Ln and the insanity of racing right there off of the freeway when they would get busted at Emerald.

All the rednecks flipping their trucks in the field next to Emerald. People driving up the side of the freeway to get away from the helicopter. LOL, that always cracked me up.

That night the guy in the Mercedes plowed through the crowd because was so damn drunk and all the people in the street. Hit that girl on the median and dragged her under the car over 100 yards. :( Which is what eventually really finally started the end of the glory days of Dallas street racing.

My first adventure out there was getting my ass handed to me by a good looking blonde in a green and grey GT, pretty sure it was Misty (Creed's wife). I'm also nearly positive I saw Travis Franklin in their group.

The sad thing is that back then I was working literally within a mile of Hans Feustel's shop and had no clue who he was. Hell I drove by it all the time on parts runs. Just a couple years ago when Josh with the yellow C5 on bottle, and Jeff with the Vibrant red Cobra, Teazer (white/blue TA), and all of those guys, we used to race at Regal for a long while sometimes1-2ish... Wasnt like in the late 90s (5-6AM), but the crowds were HUGE!!!!!!!!!! People lined up all around the cars, had to have been at least 3-400 people out there. :eek:

Remember Fred telling everyone to back up off my car when they were trying to sit on the wing for traction. I threw it in reverse and almost ran some people down (no reverse lights). People didn't seem to want to do that anymore... :D Thanks again Fred!!! Too bad I didn't get to run Teazer that night, my car was running pretty good on the BFGs. (cops came JUST before we launched, after I did about a 100 yard burn out, luckily they couldn't get to us through the crowd, and me and Teazer just drove off.) :cool:

Also remember me and junk yard dog going at it at sweetheart, we were door-door till we both let off at around 110ish... That was a BAD ass race Jon... ;)

Then you remember Dave Tipton & Robenson. I had the Black G.T with Street Lethal on the rear window and a red pin-stripe that bordered the body-moldings. I remember Robensons 85 White G.T. Those were good times hanging out at the shop before and after the races.

You smoked someone in a T/A (at Centennial) by several car lengths...Dallas cops showed up (my brother and I were parked on the bridge, facing the other way) and we started to drive off (slowly) - I look back, and my brothers car (white 86 convertible on Welds) is pulled over...I waited 30 minutes at that strip mall (by the shortcut thru the back streets to Royal) before he finally materialized...

I asked him why he got pulled over, and what took so long...He had forgot to turn his headlights on, and the cop pulled him over for operating a vehicle after dark without lights on...gave him a ticket, then spent the next 20 minutes giving him props for such a good looking car! (But did give him hell for running "street slicks")...LOL


JKD is right about the parking lot (old K-mart, wasn't it - its a lumber yard now I think)...you'd drive around 10 to 30 minutes looking for a spot sometimes!

I remember my buddy Larry haywood finally beating that damn Talon out at Astro in his Coupe. He pulled the wheels on the lauch runnin' those old Hoosier Quick time DOT's. We thought that was the shit back then.

I also remember Daniels Bimini Blue Coupe that Had CYBER Racing on the back. That is why I ended up buying the same color car back then. I love that color. I need to buy another one.

I just remembered another car - The Looney Tunes car. It was a hatch that had some deep dish convo pro's on it. The guy would pul up and turn up his stereo that was loud as fuck and piss everyone off. Then a half dozen John Force burnouts, but the car was actually somewhat quick. Well, it left HARD out of the hole and won several races, but I dunno if it was actually fast or not.

Another vivid memory was when the Syclones/Typhoons were abundant (a few modded after basic warranty ran out) and one in particular showed up - he was cleaning everyones clocks right and left...a few of the "old guard" decided enough was enough and said they would be bringing out some real iron - one in particular was a Plum Crazy 69 Super Bee...

The following week, the Syclone and Super Bee lined up...both were at least low 12 second quarter milers, and a bit of "old vs. new" rivalry/smack was going on...I, to this day, don't think i've ever seen another Syclone leave as hard as this one (it had a converter, something like 4000 stall)...I thought it was going to leave the ground! LOL...the Bee took the win on the top end (but barely)...


I was also witness to one of the most screwed up wrecks at Miller:( ...two guys racing back after a pass (we had a set of railroad tracks on the top end, about 1/2 mile away)...they both hit the tracks (which were recessed about 3 inches from road surface)...one of them (a Regal with a Grand National Engine) loses control, hits a woman driving a Daihatsu subcompact, spins her 5 times while the Regal bounces off, flys into a field and flips 7 or 8 times (I noticed the headlights spinning in the air)...car broke into two pieces...everyone lived, but the woman who was hit spent many months in the hospital, and eventually sued the guy who hit her...

Cops started coming down pretty hard in Fort Worth after that...I think the "true" end came after the accident at Garden Acres :( (with Big Lee (RIP) and the "Warr Wagon")...most of the old crew either got married and sold their stuff off, moved away (I went to Florida, then moved back), or progressed to track only...

Its amazing that back then we didn't have more accidents...I guess its because alot of us hung around the old guys (I did), and they told me some simple advice (which I stick to today)...

I remember the white 55 for sure. Never saw it run but it sounded damn good. I also remember Robert's black phantom duely with the 671 poking though the hood. There was also a mexican kid in a white long bed 72 chevy that was pretty quick. The best nights to hit galloway back then were the saturdays and sundays after cuper chevy or fun ford. Seemed like all the young guys needed to finish up their racing for the weekend.

Boy this post it like a serious blast from the past. I did most of racing in front of carter and over at the ICE house by the Astro Drive in. I had a 1986 LX coupe with a set of 3:55's and advanced timing No other mods and I swear the car could out run the Devil himself at the time. I remember once when the IROC 5.7 Club came to carter for a little battle on the streets. I raced one of of the guys with a canary yellow 5.7 I tore him a new one and he could not figure out how. I was king of the strip for a few weeks after that. I was like a underground street racing superstar for a bit. And every thing was so cool back then nobody took it that seriously. Man what happened?

In my early teens, we live right next to Crawford Park, I would ride my BMX across the park to watch the races on Elam. Year or two later, we moved close to Waco, and in my early 20's, I did alot or racing on Valley Mills Drive, and out by the soccer fields, in my midnight blue 71 Mustang coupe, used to win our beer money doing it too. I still remember my first loss, it was an 89 'vert with a Paxton 'charger, no beer money that night. Good old days...

yeah i remember being out there 8 yrs ago, 100's of people there, real good races. One time the cops came out and me and my buddies in there fox body cars jetted across the fields, closest I ever came to getting caught. Most of the time I remember going to blue mound road a lot, or railhead. Now when I see people over their on beach, its nothing but ricers and crazy people doing burnouts in the parking lot, cops coming out, was nothing like it was back in the day.

I also remember one time at Regal when the cops came and blocked it all in.. Me and my budy just left Country 2000 "tells you how long ago this was", and were drunker then a skunk.. He was driving, I was more drunk then he was.. We looked at each other and said well we can go to jail or go off roading.. We were in my Ford Ranger 2 wheel drive, 1 wheel peel crap.. Well we took off up the leavy, had to try it 3 times to make it up, no traction, and down the other side drove all the way to Mockingbird and came out over there at a gate that was locked.. That didn't stop abunch of drunk rednecks, we started to shake the gate back and forth and broke the Master lock that was on it.. The funny thing was all the trucks followed and a AWD Eclipse made it up there too.. The cops tried to chase us down but they couldn't make it up the leavy.. Damn the good ole times.. I think I have done that 3 times out there now.. :D It was great.

The car went straight up and my budy that was driving behind him went underneithe the TA while it was in the air, the tire came off the TA and almost hit his g/f in the passenger seat. As a kid, I remember going out behind old Motorola, on Beach street. Way back before they barricaded the parking lots and, hired Rent-A-Cops. Everything seemed more organized back then. I recall being able to watch real street racing for atleast a couple of hours before anyone showed up. We'd all leave, drive around for a few minutes, and then come right back to the same spot.

I remember The HEAD (Christian) busting me up a little at Frito Lay. We raced like 3 times and it would always be 1/2 to 1 car between us. For some reason I could never get around him.:mad:

But Cobra Chic was a diffrent story , I would pat the gas on her so hard, I would get cramps in my leg going down NW Highway.:D But damn did we have a good time back then. She would always drive , because Fred couldn't drive a sharp stick in the mud back then.


I also remember going out there with the old Taco Casa car(Yellow and Orange 85 GT) with no motor in it and we still couldn't get a race. We used to give Sapphire (Donnie) about 4-6 length's and go by him so hard that one time it pulled the "OC" off of his IROC. We would just pimp it out there on a trailer and laugh our asses off at people not knowing there wasn't a motor in it.....................damn I miss the good ol' days.

Did anyone used to race in front of the Church off of 635. We used to go there after the Sat night car shows at Kellers!! I know Reid used to go. The faster cars would stay until all the show cars would leave. The the racers would head over to the Church.

the guy with the Blue coupe from Stangs -n- Stuff was Adrian. I do not remeber his last name but he was a big boy. It had a 347, top-loader and 4.56 gears. The way he obtained the engine and everything was by telling his mother that he blew his engine and it was going to cost $20,000 to fix. She went and took out a loan and gave the money to him. My friend built a 68 Camaro almost that way...his dad owned a liquor store (still does)...

He bought a clone RS/SS 327 4 speed car...it was gennie looking...within a couple of weeks, it had an (laughing as I type this) Erson Hi Flow 2, full length headers, aluminum heads (some of the first aftermarket ones I'd ever seen...I think they were early DART castings), and a gear swap from 3.55's to 3.73's...

We were at Super Shops (:eek: :D ) practically every weekend, buying parts and installing them to run that night...he eventually turned that 327 8500 rpm before having a 468 built for that car and installing that...he dumped at least 10k in that car the first summer he owned it (1992)...he installed the big block the summer of 93 and ran it until 95 or 96 when I lost track of him...he eventually sold it and got married...

That car was parent funded almost from the git go...

The funniest thing I witnessed was one night at Royal, some guy, who I think his name was Chris, was at the Chevron challenging whoever to fight, and some guy stepped up and knocked him pretty much out, he got up and the guy knocked him out again. At that point, the Chris guy ran off and got into some truck and hid.

I also remember the brand new TA that was leaving Royal and wiped out on 35, hit the center divider at what looked like 140mph. The car went straight up and my budy that was driving behind him went underneithe the TA while it was in the air, the tire came off the TA and almost hit his g/f in the passenger seat. They were in a Yellow Vert with the top down.. Luckly all four passengers walked out of it alright.. I was in my truck about a 1/4 mile back when that happend..

In 97/98 or so I was in my black coupe coming from Inwood/Forrest, going south on 35, in a big pack and moving, pretty stupid, seemed like a couple dozen cars going about 120-130.

A new blue pontiac f-bod (I thought it was a V-6 firebird w/paper plates) lost it and hit a couple poles it seemed like or maybe he hit the ceneter concrete divider and then hit the pole. I just remember seeing tire smoke and all these brake lights as everyone was trying to slow down and avoid the f-bod, it stopped in the highway. The pole, it was broken about 6 ft off the ground, it fell on the n-bound side of 35 blocking the left two lanes. That could have been A LOT worse.

Reminded me about a bunch of cool nights I had nearly forgotten.

I was really young the first time I was ever taken to the street races...93/94 or so at Carter. By late 95 I was there everyweekend at the Carter/Astro scene after getting back from Ennis or K-Dale.

I bought my first car, a black 5.0 5spd coupe while I was still 15. My parents wouldn't let me drive it unitl I got my license, I was making payments on a car and insurance and riding my bicycle to work! Well, on Sundays my mom would go to church, get back, then her and my step-dad would go out for lunch and a movie. I occasionally was sneaking my car out for a bit and heading to Yello-Belly a bit down the road. Back then I think it was $5 to get in and a $1 to race, or was it just a $1 to race and FREE to get in???

The other day I saw a faded yellow fox GT with body color painted window trim, those 16" american racing 5-stars everyone had, and two chrome echo-tips coming THROUGH the rear bumper, totally Carter style, felt like 94 all over again, made me want to start a thread like this ;)

Too bad we didn't have digital cameras back then. Anyone with pics from that era, scan them ho's and post 'em! I know we would all appreciate it.

No, the guy he's talking about was on a green Kawasaki and had no helmet on. He was showing off on his brothers bike and ended up dead. The car he hit was a black GT with a lil drunk Meskin driving it. The Mustang went to make a U-turn and the bike caught him right in the passenger side front tire. That kid looked like Superman when he caught flight. That was the first time I ever saw a turbine rim mounted onto an upper intake:( It took about 20 minutes for the Ambulance to get there and as soon as they rolled up they checked the kid and put that blue sheet over him .........right in the middle of Royal Ln. First time I ever witnessed a man die.........I wish he was still here.

I was driving a white c-4 hatch and asked if you wanted to race me instead since I was there and you said no you would just wait for your other race that showed up. Prolly good thing you didnt though, that car made waste of everyone then. I moved here in 97 and the first place i ever went to was Astro. Holy shit. I was freaked out at the amount of people there.

I have a few vhs tapes with alot of races from carter, astro, sweetheart, emerald, etc.

I remember a strawberry coupe on bottle that was always handing out ass whoopins at Astro. Got him and Glenn aka the gym teacher (red talon on tri spokes) racing on tape. I moved here in 97 and the first place i ever went to was Astro. Holy shit. I was freaked out at the amount of people there.

I have a few vhs tapes with alot of races from carter, astro, sweetheart, emerald, etc.

I remember a strawberry coupe on bottle that was always handing out ass whoopins at Astro. Got him and Glenn aka the gym teacher (red talon on tri spokes) racing on tape. im pretty sure it had welds. it was one of the faster cars out there at the time.. i know it had some meats on the back and purged before every race.

Anyone remember the maroon over black fox body gt with the 400+ci motor? That thing was a fucking beast. One night we went out to Blue Mound and he was there with some other fast cars. There were some pretty fast rotary cars there that night too. Damn I could go on forever. lol

I doubt that too. That car made waste of Leon in the blower car and Wes in the same night. Also beat Nathan's car on street tires over off Skillman in a warehouse district. He was pissed and wanted to fight cause I beat him on radials. I beat many people in that car too. I would have raced you if you would of asked. I raced everyone. I also raced that blue Blue Oval coupe with the stroker motor that night the cops raided the place. I left about 5 mins before they showed up.You called them is what I heard..

If you wanna be exact, you were behind the gas station I think on Royal, waiting for someone to show up. I was driving a white c-4 hatch and asked if you wanted to race me instead since I was there and you said no you would just wait for your other race that showed up. Prolly good thing you didnt though, that car made waste of everyone then. Leon, Stacey's teal hatch, the cyclone, both AWD DSM's( the white alamo sports and the Red tri bar car), the red coupe Penner drove, Penner's car too, the little isuzu truck with the sbc the big boy drove.........etc etc etc.


Who drove that red talon with the tribars. That's the one my buddy beat in his Coupe out at Astro and everyone was surprised. My friend's coupe was a strawberry red car and he was from Irving. Around '96 or '97

It had Chrome ponies then Welds, then back to Ponies. He was one of the first guys in the area with Twisted Wedges and a P600b on a Green Coupe. It caught fire(FMU) then he switched over to that Strawberry Coupe from Ponies N More :p

He took the blower off and ran a dual stage after that. I have been trying to get ahold of that fool, but he moved somewhere in East Tx. I still know where one of our buddies Richard lives in Irving though. Long Live All American Racing :D

As far as the skunk winning races...actually it did, and many of them.

It had the nitous kit with a 175 dry shot. Its the car that made Jeff Chandler want a mustang.

I'll agree with everything but the leather part. He used to come to the street races with that thing looking like somebody loaned it to him from the local chop shop. It didn't have shit but some bars above his head:D On the other hand it did run an 11.10 at Fun Ford if I remember right.

Wow reading all these stories was great.I moved to Dallas around 96 or 97.
I brought my 91 orange coupe and the first night out at royal and northwest highway was a blast.

I raced and beat the old Dodge truck multiple times.Raced vipers,vettes all were dispatched rather easily.Teazer didn't want none .......then my car got stolen....Welcome to fuckin Dallas!

All my cars from there on out have been slow compared to that one.

His car was pretty quick with just being a 302 with 351W heads, Victor Jr. and a 750 carb, 5spd, with a 11 in. Kevlar clutch.

Nice setup. I had a custom grind cam from Bennet at .50 was 576 lift with 1.60
410 gears with a 150 to 200 shot bepending on the night.
