(CBS) Although Americans believe they are better informed about Islam than they were five years ago, a new CBS News poll finds fewer than one in five say their impression of the religion is favorable.
Forty-five percent of respondents queried April 6 - 9 said they have an unfavorable view of Islam, a rise from 36 percent in February. And the public’s impression of Islam has diminished even more compared with four years ago. In February 2002 – less than six months after the terrorist attacks of September 11 – the country was evenly divided in its impression of Islam.

Gee, when we see them blow up bombs, murder and rape people every day. I wonder what kind of impression they are trying to send. I am glad to see people are waking up.

Interesting. Seems to track the Bush numbers. Maybe the world is tired of both.

Maybe??? There is no maybe about it. Maybe Bush should convert to Islam. I wonder if that would change his approval ratings at all? They couldn't get any worse!

It's amazing how one sect of a religion is all we focus on, not even one sect but a minority portion of that sect. What if Al Jazeera showed Aryan Brotherhood or KKK training videos and portrayed their beliefs as typical for Christianity? Timothy McVeigh wasn't Muslim and he hated our government as much as or more than Bin Laden.

Even the KKK isn't known for the carnage and destruction that the Muslim extremist are known for...neither are the Christians, no matter how extreme they appear. KKK training video's are tame compared to what is really happening with the insurgents. The KKK doesn't kill it's own people en masse every day of the week. I'm beginning to think that the "muslim extremist" is more common than some of us care to admit.

Ever heard of the Spanish Inquisition? They killed over 30k people, nearly all Jews and Muslims and a good portion of which were burned alive. How about the crusades? No telling how many thousands of Muslims and Jews were killed during the 9 different ones. Their crime? Not being Christian.
Sure it was a long time ago but the death count far exceeds anything the Muslims have accomplished. They didn't do it by crashing planes into buildings or blowing up busses either. Given the choice I'd much rather die from a car bomb than being crucified or burned alive.

Misguided individuals come in all cultures. All it takes is brainwashing, desperation, and some kind of fervor.
But there is nothing like the institutionalized zealotry being practiced in modern Islam. In the Inquisition, there was no internet, no means of communication faster than about 6mph. Now with mass media and widespread poverty, hate is easier to preach than ever...

Actually, some historians are now saying that the "crusades" were using Christianity as a reason for all the looting, raping, etc. Hell yes it was bad. And yes, I've heard of the Spanish Inquisition...Please keep in mind the numbers of Muslim's that have killed each other in wars, and their own "brand" of genocide within their own faith. Kind of like Bapists' killing Southern Baptists'.

Northern Island
You mean "Northern Ireland"? Yeah, there has been some of that, but on a VERY small scale compared to what Sadaam did to his own folks (Kurd's) a few years back. He tried to pull a Hitler-style genocide.

I think it is funny that when I used to get on here and state how fucked up Bush was I got flamed LOL. I don't see the same group on here defending GW to the end any longer. It seems opinions on this site have changed over the past 2 years.

Well no. Just like two years ago, if he does something fucked up, he gets called on it.
I still support Bush, he's far better than the alternative and his predecessor. He's a good politician but in dire need of a PR man.
My fondest memory of Clinton is this list (http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pardonchartlst.htm)

"..a good politician.." :D

"..odometer rollback" :D That's some scary shit there.

Point taken and they still haven't fully developed their nukes or chemical weapons. We better pull out of Iraq right now and let the UN take care of it!

I like how you picked out the "trivial" charge...even though it IS a Federal offense. But you're right...it IS trivial considering the rest of those charges, and it does pale in comparison to the others. I think it shows that instead of having a skeleton in the closet like most politicians, Ol' Bill has a fuckin' graveyard full, and it was simply payback time.

Don't bet, just show me. The actual list. Clinton was warned by his own advisors about how bad this would look, but he did it anyway, and with the help of the liberal media, it was never really challenged or questioned. It is a presidents' right to grant pardons', so there's no reason to get too upset.

Well, we will have to wait to see what "W" does in terms of pardons.

As if any booty buddy of Dubya's is gonna get busted!
The worst one I see on senior's list is Aslam P. Adam who likely was a covert operative. He was deported and banned from the country btw. Senior refused over 1,000 requests for clemency during his term, an unheard of number. Of course lots of key figures in the Iran contra affair were also pardoned under his watch.
Does the name Marc Rich ring any bells? His wife donated tons of money to Hillary's senate campaign and financed a good portion of Clinton's presidential library. His crime? Over $48,000,000 owed in back taxes currently and buying oil from Iran while they held our people hostage. He also supplied Iran with lots of raw materials during our trade embargo against them.
Marc Rich should be executed as a traitor to the United States but Clinton pardoned him and happily took his money.

Yeah, I thought that was interesting. Ol' George was kinda spooky (pardon the pun  ), but things were eerily calm when he was the Prez, don't you think? I mean, people were afraid of dissappearing and shit... ;)
