i got a message about a sasser worm from my ISP ,they shut mine off,so i wiped out the hard drive (5 differ times) and each time turned the pc on and it still has the virus,is it keeping my ip address or what?? the last time i formatted mine it was with a differ hard drive but same pc??
they was serious about shutting my internet down,
anyone that knows there shit can call me thats would be great..

Not sure on that particular virus, but some viruss will store them selves in the memory sector.

Sasser is quite easy to get around, as it prays upon an old MS flaw that was patched nearly 2 years ago. Just make sure you're up-to-date on critical MS patches and run a virus scan with latest defs. Should be good to go (in relation to Sasser, at least).

Hit up symantec's website. They should have a sasser removal tool

Even though you may have rebuilt your OS several times, if the OS isn't patched it's vulnerable. If you can build the OS (assuming XP) and it doesn't have SP2 already slipstreamed in, get a copy of SP2 on CD and install it while the machine is not connected to the Internet. Then turn on the XP Firewall, connect up and go straight to the Windows Update site and start patching. Also, if you can install your Anti-virus s/w and get updated definitions on CD as well before you connect to the Internet, that would be a good idea :)
