Mavs vs. Spurs. It basically clinches #1 for the Spurs and keeps hope alive for the Mavs.

Josh Howard has had a HUGE first half. Nice comeback for the Mavs 'cause they were getting DOMINATED at the first part of the 2nd Quarter.

53-51 Spurs at Halftime.

89-84 Dallas w/ 1:55 to go. I've been busy setting up my new house, I forgot the game was on, but my 6th sense kicked in and reminded me.

GO MAVS!

Dallas up 90-86 w/ the ball and 6.7 to go. The officials actually called a travel on Duncan..kind of amazing this late in the game for a call to go against a superstar.

HUGE win by Dallas! I told you guys that it is still possible for Dallas to get the #1 seed. The final division games are gonna be HUGE too.

It will come down to Dallas and San Antonio in the Western Conf. Finals. It will go the full 7 games for sure.

I'm a Mavs fan too, but don't get too happy yet. Even though we're one game back, we've still technically got 2 games to make up. If we finish tied, S.A. still hold the tiebreaker due to conference record. That being said, this is a MONSTER win for Dallas. It gives them the confidence they need to go into San Antonio in the 2nd round and pull out a win.

WE have the tie breaker, don't we? I thought it goes division record and then conference.

Taken from ESPN.com...

In the event two or more teams are tied in the standings, a series of tiebreakers are applied to determine which team receives the higher seeding.
Two-Team Tiebreaker
1. Better record in head-to-head games
2. Higher winning percentage in conference games
3. Higher winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division)
4. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference
5. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in opposite conference
6. Higher point differential between points scored and points allowed

The 1st tie breaker between S.A. and Dallas is even. S.A. owns the 2nd. In this case, S.A. is 37-10 in conference and Dallas is 34-12. Dallas would have to win outright, not tie, to take the Division/Conference.

Getting the #1 seed is not near as important as proving that we can go into San Antonio and beat the Spurs on their home court. Big statement game and confidence booster going into the playoffs.

It would still be nice to pull out the number one seed, but I like our chances either way.

GO MAVS!!!

Well SVTVenom, you might be right... I found my stuff on ESPN, but I also saw this on DallasNews. I don't know which info is right, but I hope yours is. :)

TIEBREAKERS
If the Mavs (57-19) and Spurs (58-18) finish with identical records for the No. 1 seed in the West, here are the critieria for breaking the tie (listed in order):

Head-to-head: Series tied, 2-2

Division record: Mavericks are 12-3 with one game left; Spurs are 11-3 with two games left

Conference record: Mavericks are 34-12; Spurs are 37-10

The division records at least give the Mavs a chance. Although each team has only 3 losses, so if we all win out, we move to conference where Spurs will have the advantage. Hmmmmmmmmm....

Yeah I don't know what info is right either. One of the epsn radio guys said that it goes division and then conference so if they tie the mavs have the tie breaker. I just figured he knew what he was talking about. How about the mavs just get the better record so that it wont even matter? ;)

Ok...so I think it is division. I got this off of CNN Sports tonight...just a blurb from the text after the Mavs win...

"This victory has added significance because it sealed Dallas' mark against Southwest Division foes at 13-3 - and division record could be the deciding factor if the teams end up tied. San Antonio is 11-3 in division play with games left Sunday at home against Memphis and at Houston in the finale.

Should the Spurs match the Mavs in that category yet still wind up tied in the overall standings, San Antonio has a strong three-game advantage in the next tiebreaker, conference record. "
