The "new and improved" Rangers pitching staff gave up 7 Homeruns tonight against the Detroit Tigers.

Well R.A. Dickey isn't new....and that knuckleball certainly doesn't look improved. Those pitches looked terrrrrrrible. It was probably like going to the batting cages and hitting softballs for those guys. By the way, he gave up 6 of them.

man, it's very early on, but i'm disappointed to hear this. i didn't even check for stats/scores tonight. i just don't see how management and front office doesn't get it, get some damned pitching in here.

I was getting kinda pumped up too after seeing such good outings from Padilla and Loe.

Padilla and Loe were both awesome, Millwood will come around. I've never had a lot of respect for Dickey's skills but if his knuckle ball is on he's pretty decent. Not sure why he wouldn't atleast try and throw some fast balls and curves to mix things up a bit.

No movement on those knuckle balls... I would have pulled him after homer #3 at the latest.

Maybe they should actually stop paying those position players so much and get a pitching staff.

On the other hand, the fans come to see offence, so I guess they're doing a good job of giving the fans what they want. Even if it's not the home team.

I think Tom Hicks needs to show Roger Clemmons the money and get him in here ASAP.

If Milwood struggles on his next start I bet we see an interesting press release next week.

They don't need 1 guy. But he'd help for a year.

Fuck Clemens!

The answer is a pitching STAFF. Clemens would only be here 1/2 a season if at all... what i dick-tease.

a la Nolan Ryan. For years, people went to see Ryan pitch, and he put butts in the seats. Clemens would do the same thing, but that's about it...a little revenue for Hicks, and $8 beer.

Nolan pitched as much as his health would let him, he never took half a season off for the hell of it.

You are correct, of course. I wasn't knocking Ryan, because he was truly amazing at ANY age. I WAS, however, knocking Ranger management.

Clemens will only pitch home games, won't travel & won't start until after the all-star break, damn he is a diva.

Dickey broke a record for home runs served up that dates back to 1886, yes I said 1886.

They smoked Boston in the 2nd game but that's it so far.

Some of you guys talk like Clemen's isn't a Ranger due to lack of trying. Clemen's isn't in any uniform because he's not sure he want's to play. The guy has made his money and i'm sure the 3 teams that he is dealing with has thrown plenty more his way. I gurantee you the Rangers have offered him the world, and i'm willing to bet he hasn't accepted due to the fact he'd rather not play any more but the offer's are so appealing, he's thinking about it.

With the quality of Rangers pitching every year, i'm surprised it took them this long to break the record.

LMFAO @ Jim Rome and what he said about R.A. Dickey:

"He was touched up for not one, two, three, four, or even five jacks. Dickey set the bar with a count of six bombs. He allowed them all to the Detroit Tigers and that tied the record for the most home-runs allowed by a pitcher in the post-1900 era. Dickey, a coverted knuckle-baller, took it all in stride saying - Quote: "When you let go of the ball you are at the mercy at the way it's going to move and it was moving right into their bats." End Quote. Well, thats partially true. It was moving right into their bats and then right over the wall......six times."

the bats will awaken with the new season... i'm glad 2 out of 4 losses were close game... we just need the offense to be consistant... but.. when our "Only home run hitting team" has a break down we need our pitchers to step up and throw some defensive pitches.

Yeah, I heard that on GAC yesterday. They played the World News Tonight theme music and then said: "This just in: R.A. Dickey has been sent to AAA Oklahoma." That guy has too feel like crap right now.

With the exception of their only win, they can have either pitching or offense, but they can't have both. It's the same old shit, year after year.

Yeah as for setting a record since 1886? I don't know where that came from. He tied it with the infamous Tim Wakefield, who pitched in our only winning game so far. Both knuckleballers. I wouldn't even consider comparing Dickey to Wakefield, but knuckleballs are either great or terrible. Although we're looking like crap right now, it's not really anything in baseball (162 games). Yankees are 1-4 so far.

And I agree, knuckleballers are either on or off on a given day, Wakefield > Dickey, and the season is young. However, Texas usually starts off strong and finishes flat; I hope they start off flat and finish strong, but their shitty pitching and lack of offense are pretty disparaging. :(

I believe this little dialog is rather fitting considering the Rangers pitching performances as of late:

"Mr. Vaughn, I thought you were starting today."
"I did."
"Oh, I didn't turn it on 'til the second inning."

Thier pitching stuff is a joke again. Giving up 6 home runs in 1 game. Why not take that man out after 2 or 3? But that would be the smart thing to do. And the Rangers arent the smartist team in the league. Untill they spend some money and get some big name people in here they are going to suck every year.
