And not the Suns because Stoudamire is out for the year. JMAC hit the nail on the head!

Shutting it down
Knee surgery ends season for Suns ' Stoudemire

PHOENIX (AP) -- All-Star Suns forward Amare Stoudemire had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Wednesday and won't play again this season.

The operation followed a comeback that lasted three games. He missed the first 66 games of the season after surgery on his left knee.

In the latest operation, debris caused by wear and tear of the kneecap was removed, the team said. Stoudemire will be on crutches for a week to 10 days and can resume basketball in six to eight weeks.

"They just cleaned up some stuff," coach and general manager Mike D'Antoni said. "There's nothing structurally wrong."

Stoudemire's surgery Oct. 11 came a week after he signed a five-year contract extension worth more than $70 million. He returned to the lineup March 23, scoring 20 points in 19 minutes against Portland. But his production dropped dramatically in his next two games, and Stoudemire's mobility was a problem. He missed the next four games before deciding on arthroscopic surgery.

D'Antoni said he wouldn't second-guess the decision to have Stoudemire return less than six months after surgery.

"There was no risk of him re-injuring his knee," D'Antoni said.

Stoudemire's next game could be with the U.S. team that plays in the FIBA world championships in Japan this summer.

"He'll start rehabbing next week, and I'd imagine his goal is to start getting ready for Team USA," said D'Antoni, an assistant on the U.S. team.

D'Antoni brushed aside the suggestion that Stoudemire's absence will hurt Phoenix as it bids for a first NBA title. Phoenix has all but locked up the second overall seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

"I think we still have a shot," D'Antoni said. "I think we can play with anybody. I think our players are looking forward to showing what they've got."

Guard Steve Nash pointed to the Suns' 109-102 loss to Detroit on Sunday as a reason for optimism. Playing their fifth road game in seven days, the Suns took a 17-point lead before collapsing against the Pistons, who have a league-best 34-3 record at home.

"We're right there," Nash said. "We've got a lot to overcome, but that's one of the big, physical teams and we were right there."

With Stoudemire dominating in the paint, the Suns reached the Western Conference finals last year, and they opened training camp last fall as a title contender. After Stoudemire underwent surgery, some observers questioned whether Phoenix would make the playoffs this season.

But the Suns thrived in his absence, taking a commanding lead in the Pacific Division with their style, which emphasizes speed and shooting over size and strength.

The Suns struggled to work Stoudemire into their offense during his brief return. Now that he's gone for the rest of the year, Phoenix will revert to a smaller lineup featuring 6-foot-8 Boris Diaw as a pass-oriented center.

The Suns' biggest concern remains rebounding and interior defense, both of which are far better with a healthy Stoudemire. Opponents average a league-high 46.1 rebounds a game against Phoenix.

The Suns hope 6-9, 254-pound Brian Grant, who missed 52 games after right knee surgery, will take up some of the slack. He's averaging 2.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 9.6 minutes in 14 games this year.

The Suns don't expect 6-9, 235-pound Kurt Thomas, who has missed 17 games with a stress fracture in his right foot, to return until the second round of the playoffs. Thomas' 7.8 rebounds a game is second on the club to Shawn Marion, with 12.1.

Detroit > San Antonio > Dallas :(

Detroit > San Antonio
Detroit < Dallas
Dallas < San Antonio (hopefully until this years playoffs):)

Some teams just match up better against each other and I don't know if there have been any special circumstances between the 2 Pistons/Spurs games this year, but I've been quite shocked at how Detroit has handled the Spurs. Detroit 85 Spurs 70 and Detroit 83 Spurs 68. I don't know why they've been able to shut down the Spurs offense like that. But from what I've seen in the Detroit Dallas games, Detroit doesn't scare me. We lost the last game with a half deck of players and still scored 90 points.

This is what I'm talking about! It's a shame the Mav's are still 2 games behind.

Anybody have any plans for watching the Mav's game anywhere?

SAN ANTONIO - If this was a preview of a first-round matchup in the NBA playoffs, the defending champion San Antonio Spurs will see a demanding opponent in the Sacramento Kings. And they’ll see plenty of Mike Bibby.

Bibby played in all but 2:36 of the game, and he scored 31 points, had eight assists and seven rebounds to lead the Kings to a 97-87 victory Wednesday night.

The Kings (39-37) currently are the eighth seed in the Western Conference. The Spurs (58-17) have the top seed.

The Kings bounced back from their worst defeat of the season, a 26-point loss at Dallas on Tuesday.

“If we play like we did tonight, I see us going far in the playoffs,” Bibby said. “If we play like last night (against Dallas), no way.”

The loss ended a four-game winning streak for the Spurs.

Tony Parker led San Antonio with 16 points.

“I thought Sacramento played great tonight,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “Bibby was great. We just didn’t play our normal game, and it cost us.”

It didn’t take long for the Kings to build a double-digit lead.

Sacramento took a 26-22 lead after the first quarter by shooting 50 percent from the floor. Ron Artest didn’t miss any of this three tries, including a 3-pointer 1:11 into the game.

Artest hit another 3-pointer early in the second quarter — his fourth basket in four tries overall — to give the Kings an 11-point lead.

Sacramento led by 13 points at halftime and built a 19-point lead with 6:14 remaining. The Spurs failed to cut the lead to less than double digits the rest of the way.

Artest scored 15 points. Bonzi Wells added 19 for Sacramento.

“We played solid all the way through,” Kings coach Rick Adelman said. “We beat the best team in the West at their place. If we keep playing at this level we are going to put ourselves in great position for the playoffs.”

But time is running out. Sacramento has six games remaining and has won four of its last five.

San Antonio has a two-game lead over Southwest Division-rival Dallas for the best record in the West. The Spurs and Mavericks meet for the final time in the regular season on Friday in San Antonio.

The Kings handed the Spurs their fifth loss at home this season, and the two games they lost to San Antonio this season were by a total of four points.

If the current seeds hold, the Spurs will see a far different opponent than they did earlier in the season when they won the two close games against the Kings. Before Wednesday, the Spurs and Kings last played on Dec. 17. Sacramento acquired Artest in the trade with Indiana on Jan. 25.

“They are more physical,” Spurs guard Manu Ginobili said. “We are going to use (this game) to know them better. The last time that we played was a long time ago. So it’s going to be good to know them if we really play them.”

The Spurs shot 41 percent from the floor compared to 48 percent for the Kings.

The Kings didn’t dip very far into their bench. But they were efficient when they went there.

Sacramento pulled two players off the bench in the first half and got a combined 17 points from Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Kevin Martin. Each player was 4-for-7, including a 3-pointer from Martin.

Abdur-Rahim finished with 16 points in 24 minutes; Martin added nine.

The Kings shot 5-of-24 from 3-point range at Dallas, but shot 9-for-18 from the 3-point line against San Antonio.

Notes: The Kings play Friday at the Los Angeles Clippers, but follow with four of their remaining five games at home. ... The Kings held their opponents to less than 100 points in 13 games before the 127 points scored by Dallas on Tuesday. ... Four technical fouls were called during the first half, including consecutive calls on Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and Tim Duncan and another 48 seconds later against Artest. ... The Spurs trailed by double digits for the second consecutive home game. San Antonio fell behind by 10 against Washington in the third quarter on Saturday, but still won 106-99.
