Top QB prospect commits to Texas (http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/longhorns/entries/2006/04/05/top_qb_prospect_commits_to_texas.html)

John Brantley, considered the best quarterback recruit in Florida and one of the best in the nation, committed to Texas on Wednesday afternoon.

“I won’t let you down, coach,” Brantley promised Longhorn coach Mack Brown during his news conference at Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, Fla.

His commitment is nonbinding at this point. Brantley, who is finishing up his junior year of high school, will sign a national letter of intent next February as part of the class of 2007.

Brantley’s father said that Longhorn coaches had promised that Brantley will be redshirted his freshman season. That was an appealing option for Brantley’s growth and improvement, the father said.

Funny i just read about Ryan P, he should have just stayed at Texas..
He would have probly been named the starter by now..

But instead he wont beat out Russell or Flynn at this point.. :p

good to hear, of course lets hope this stays the same until feb.

i guess Michigan has Mallett now, no reason for UT to go after him i guess?

so in 3yrs. we get to see Brantley play. man that seems like forever now. LOL

i thought the best part was that him or his dad said that it was important to commit early so other schools could get on with their qb recruiting. classy family, glad he's going to UT.

Perilloux would have been a cancer to UT's National Championship team. I knew he was problems when he said he wouldn't sit & thought he could easily be the starter over VY. Honestly his shift to LSU was a life saver for UT.
