ip address release and renew

when i get the cmd screen on its goes right back off,is there another way to do this procedure

depends on the OS.... winipcfg with an older OS

with the new ones just go thru control panel...

You need to bring up the command prompt window first.

Windows 98 had a graphical tool called winipcfg I believe. Assuming you are on win2k or xp do the following.

Start->Run and type "cmd". Hit enter
At the prompt type "ipconfig /renew"

(Also note you can use "ipconfig /all" and "ipconfig /release" as well)

If you are trying this, I would be willing to bet there is something else wrong...windows does a pretty good job of picking up ip addresses.
