Several critics and moviegoers alike have labeled the new Wachowski Brother's film, V for Vendetta, a commentary on the "evils" of the Bush Administration and an al-Quaeda sympathetic film...being a high school student and member of the conservative club at my school, I've tryed discussing this issue with teachers and students alike to no avail. I wanted to know how the men/women in this forum felt on the film, because I personally enjoyed the film and the message of how powerful an idea can potentially be. The thought provoking philosophical perspectives that arise in the movie make you question society in a similiar fashion to the Aldous Huxley's "A Brave New World." I just wanted some discussion...

Natalie Portman is in it so that should tell you enough right there - another big time Hollywood left winger.

Eh, I don't see any direct correlation to the Bush administration and think it's a stretch to label it as so. The movie had tons of parts that reminded me sooo much of Orwell's 1984.

Reading a little more into it, the main parallels seeming to be drawn are the movie's gov't's use of Christianity and the "the secret police repeatedly throw black hoods over people’s heads, Abu Ghraib style". But those both seem like a stretch to me. This just sounds like media trying to make a big fire fight out of it, nothing really tangible to connect the two.
Also, one review I read was upset that the Wachowski brother's celebrate destroying parliament, "an icon of liberal democracy". But that just seems to ignore the world that has been created for this movie, which is totalitarian in nature...making the icon fairly different.

I didn't see anything in the trailer that would make it seem so. It said from the makers of the Matrix, kind of seemed like one guy against the system again type movie, again.

I saw the movie, and I guess I can see what parallels they might be TRYING to make, but it just doesn't hold water. Hopefully this is just another stupid internet rumor by a bunch of non-educated, wishful thinking idiots. After all, if it were modeled after anyone, it wouldn't be the US, it would be the opposite. It would be US liberating THEM from a dictator who tells you that you can't have a poster, or a jukebox, or a Q'uran, or any of the other banned items from that movie. I'm not a Bush supporter, but don't be such a damn tool... know the facts, think about it, come to your OWN conclusion. Knowledge is power, but being able to think for yourself is even more powerful.
No more discussion on this movie, it wasn't that good.

She supports the democratic party but what makes her a big time left winger? I don't see her at the whacko rallies with Alec Baldwin, Charlie Sheen and Michael Moore. She'd probably be at a rally with Joe Lieberman though.
The woman can speak 7 languages and has a degree from Harvard. Not a typical Liberal by any means. I wouldn't be suprised at all to see her running for politcal office in a few years when she's old enough.

No, she's not quite one of those guys. However, just before the last election she was on one of the late shows (either Letterman or O'Brien) accompanied by her large pet dog stumping for Kerry. What was up with bringing the dog? Also, the way she listlessly spoke and acted, stroking the dog (and no, not that way), came across as weird.
There was also her little current events inspired line in the anti-Bush-laced final Star Wars: "So this is how democracy ends - to thunderous applause." Yeah, thanks for the PSA, Nat.
I seem to recall she has publicly expressed being open to exploring lesbianism some day. ;)
I think all in all she is quite liberal.
Oh yeah, want a good laugh? Google 'Harvard grades'.

I saw the movie and thought it was damn good. There were a couple of parts with that one news guy that got killed in the shower talking that made me think "hmmm", but other than that I couldn't ever say that there was any elusion to President Bush and his administration.
Hey, if you can't make a great movie then make a mediocre one and try to hype it up by creating a controversy.

every time i hear something about Natalie Portman, i think of thisNatalie Portman Gangsta Rap (http://www.yikers.com/video_natalie_portman_gangsta_rapper.html)
She wrote it herself, and performed it which makes it 100X funnier

LOL.
The movie is based on the comic that was written in 1981. It wasn't printed until 1988.
The creation of the story was very much a collaborative effort. Dez Skinn came up with the title "V for Vendetta", and it was Lloyd who first suggested dressing V up as Guy Fawkes. Moore began writing the story in 1981.

These are the same kind of wackos that equated Star Wars Ep. III, Revenge of the Sith, saying Lucas was commenting on the Bush administration when Lucas has his story fleshed out well before Bush.

The problem with Harvard I'm referring to is grade inflation. I'm not saying it's a bad institution by any means, definitely not, but almost 50% A's??? Followed by something like ~25% B's? It sure wasn't like that where I went. I guess if you pay that much you better get your money's worth.

While it isn't anywhere near as bad here, grade inflation is a growing problem in most schools across the nation, including here at A&M. While I don't agree with most in thinking there is a huge disparity between ivy league and other tier 1 schools, you can't argue with the strength of faculty and cirriculum at Harvard, nor the success of students they churn out.

Grade inflation at A&M? Damn, I wish that was going on in '83 and '84, I might have actually graduated. lol

Sadly so; nowhere near the ivy levels, but it comes up quite frequently down here. A&M has done a great job of addressing the problem, and pressuring faculty and staff to rectify it over the last couple years.
