Don't know about you guys but Big Brother looks to be wanting to watch our every move.
I understand the idea of a national ID system but I don't like is the radio identification chips Homeland may put in these ID cards.
They then can track out every move. Someday we might just get a speeding ticket in the mail because they could track us speeding somewhere via satellite.
Retailers could use the chip to profile our spending.
More here:

scary.

I remember when the police were trying to get access to Lojack and GPS equipped car information so that they could "monitor" those cars...ergo...speeding tickets in the mail.
It was shut down.
If there is a National ID card with a chip, I'll leave that at home.

What about when they stick it in your skin and you can't get gas, etc with out it
Doesn't one of the local colleges have an rfid program? The students don't use cash or credit in the bookstores or cafeteria.

Thats the bad thing:
Its a National Driver's License. They will know where you are anytime your travel.
Could you put it in a sealed container of some sort to block out any signals? Ie "lead or steel"
I believe that as much as I believe the immigration situation is going to get better.

I have nothing to hide. ID track us all they want
I don't either, but if that happens, you might as well throw privacy out the window. I'd also move.

Real ID has already been voted in to start in 2008.
Homeland will decide what information goes into the card.
State control of driver's license will be forfeited to the Feds.
No more internet or mail renewel is available. Everyone will have to stand in line.
Homeland Security wants the chip to be in the card. If you speed they will know about it. If you go to The Clubhouse.....big brother will know about it.
scary.
I like the Clubhouse a lot. :(

Aww hell, I know where we are going with that one...
I'll go Universal Soldier on the government if they try and stick some chip in my skin.

It would cost billions if not trillions to implement this idea. I would not expect it for at least another 5 - 10 years, and even then I doubt it will get passed unless more terrorism occurs.

Read again:
It passed with a military spending budget.
Implemented in 2008.
Homeland Security has the power to decide what information will be in the card.

Bah...constitution says you need to be at least 35 to run for president; otherwise, you might get my vote. :p
No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

If you do, you'll appreciate it here more when you return.
I could care less if we all have ID cards, if it makes the country safer, great.

Shitty. I still have 14 years to go.
I haven't read enough on the topic to really form a good opinion on the Real ID thing. But just at first glance/thought, it doesn't sound to great to me. I won't go as far as to say it's unconstitutional or an invasion of privacy, but it's just a little wierd to think that the government will know what everyone is doing all of the time.

The question is how much freedom do we give up in return for "safety?"
I for one do not want to give anyone especially anyone I don't know totall access to my life.
The risks we take assures us of personal freedom.....our country was founded on that when the founding fathers fought against the established government.
True we live in a different time but just because we have the available technology we shouldn't let it widdle away what took 200 years to build.

you could still travel anywhere you wanted to
According to the Mayan calendar, the world will end in 2012 anyway... so they only get 4 years of tracking us...

you could still travel anywhere you wanted to
thats not the point.
The point is that you could still travel anywhere you wanted to but people that you don't know will know everything about you.
Example:
You walk into a car dealership to look at buying a car. You walk through the door and the RFID is read by a scanner. They can run your information through a database and find out your car buying habits. Did you pay cash? What car you bought? What cars you drive....good customer/bad customer. You would lose all ability to negotiate and they could develop a profile for you.
I know that sounds like paranoia but I sure as hell don't want some guy someplace else to know my daily routine.

Now you come along quietly and behave yourself...like a good camrade. Or you, and anyone with a name similar to yours, will be reported to the authorities!

Yes, similar to how a metal computer case blocks out radio signals, and how movie theatres are now putting chicken wire in the walls so cell phones will no longer work.
