Curious, I always hear the "Oh, get a 600, the 1K's are way too fast."
I have ridden a couple dirtbikes, and an 03 R1 with a couple mods. I didn't go over 60 on the R1..... just basically was trying to get the feel for turning it. Rode that about 5 times in various parking lots.
What should I get? I'm not looking to get crazy and stunt the bitch. Btw, I'm 6'1" and 230lbs. That weight number is dropping weekly though.

6 or 750, even if you rode a r1 a couple times its to much for a beginner. i stupid mistake on a liter bike could be life or death, a 6 or 750 are a little more forgiving. plus insurance will be cheaper, payments cheaper. when i got my first "sportbike" a 600 was more than enough, i still dont think i'm ready for a inline liter bike. i ride a rc51 right now which is more than fun enough for me.

Pick up a used 600. That's pretty much all I'd ever buy. I have the experience to get ride a liter bike but you can just get more out of a 6.

Well, I am selling a 900-dollar MotoGP Kangaroo Leather suit for very cheap, a mint condition Arai Quantum II helmet, and Sidi Vert II boots in size 10. Lemme know if you are interested. This is very expensive gear that I am willing to get rid of for very cheap.

i get most of my stuff at newenough.com they have the best prices and very fast on shipping.
I just started riding myself. I bought my bike back in Step I think of last year abd just trip the 1600 mile mark. It was brand new and its just a 600. I think I would have been fine on a liter bike but I didn't want the outragous insurance. Plus the payments would have been alittle higher. But for now the 600 has plenty of power for me. As long as you don't try to out ride your skill level and alwasy watch out for cars you will be fine.

I'll keep it in mind. I need to grab the wheels first.

the 'roo suit is nice, but its gonna kick your ass on the street. IMO youll be good with just a nice mesh jacket like a Fieldsheer Mach 4, and get some gloves and a nice helmet. Also get some boots that cover your ankles. Starting out you can get decent gear for around $450
