So if you get a $7500 loan from capital one, do you have to use that whole $7500?

No, but your payment would be based off the 7500 loan. So they would be higher than a 5000 loan.

Well, on my loan, i had $10,500. I used $9800 of it, and my payment was ok. Then i used the rest of it on gear, and my payment only went up $20.

take the 7500 loan and immediately pay the extra 2500 back. plus this will save you interest in the long run due to the initial loan being 7500 and your payments based on that.....

your loan is on a credit card, his capital one loan is an installment, they are completely different

Even if he pays the $2500 back, his payment will still be based on the $7500 loan unless this is a credit card, then it will be based on the actual balance.
Oh and James, stop PM'ing me! I DO NOT want to go see Brokeback Mountain!

It is a credit that can be used at any motorcycle shop that accepts that card. If you would have had an installment loan you could not, for example, pay 2,000 on it then 3 months later charge another 2,000. However, with the loan you have (credit card) you can.

You guys probably know more about this subject than I do, but a friend of mine just bought a 2006 GSX-R 600. She applied for and was approved for a Suzuki credit card which she used to buy the bike. Apparently it works like a loan as far as having a high enough credit limit to purchase a motorcycle, but it is really revolving credit in that the minimum payment changes based on the loan balance. I don't know what the interest rate is, but I am sure it is higher than an installment loan. Still might not be a bad idea if you plan to make additional payments to principal.

If the difference in the monthly payment amount on a $5000 loan and a $7500 loan is going to absolutely kill you, even with a $2500 "cushion" for the most part after taking the $7500, it sounds like you really can't afford a bike in the first place.:)

i can afford it, i just figured it had a better chance of getting the loan if it was a smaller amount.
Which would be easier to do ?....get a loan from a bank for a used bike or just going to a dealership and financing a new bike ? for someone with decent credit....
