Honestly... what team has really had their decision swayed one way or the other about a top 5 pick from the combine results? None. Players that are even considered for the first 5 or so are based on their performance throught their collegiate carrer and it's usually a strong decision because of the value of the pick. Which means the team, more times than not, are 100% sure how their first picks are going to go. Combines are great for 2nd and 3rd rounders who want to prove something to everyone else. The top five picks won't gain shit from the combines, but a possible extra chance for criticism.

Uhh yeah, I wish someone could get a video clip of that. He came in 2nd for long ball, but you really should see the Obstacle course shit he won. Landing the ball perfectly on the net, that pretty much showed accuracy to me.

Drew Olsen = Philip Rivers. He'll sit on the bench and get used more as trade bait than for his abilities.

Brodie Croyle is good but I'd have some questions about his ability to stay healthy. He was plagued with injury problems the whole time he was at Alabama.

All VY has to do is hand over a DVD of the past 2 Rose Bowl games and say, "So what can I do for you?"

I really don't think it matters how any QB throws so much as he gets the job done. VY gets it done.

Hell there's even a petition out there for fans to sign to show their support to the Texans, he needs to step up and do all he can to show that they should take him first. You think the Texan's front office gives a shit about a petition? They extended Carr's contract, VY isn't going to play in Houston.

sidenote: I do agree his management team might need some retooling. I'm sure his Uncle is a nice guy, but sometimes you need outside help, not a family member heading up negotiations.

They had Young, Sinorce Moss, DeAngelo Williams, Chad Jackson, etc all sequestered down in Miami. And they were doing all these competition drills. So I plopped down and watched. Needless to say I caught the tail end of the program. I started watching during the "sure hands" drill. Sinorce Moss did well (I am proud to say), but Chad Jackson did phenomenal. That kid has some serious hands.

But anyway back to the point of my story. The main quarterback competition was next. It was some sort of mobile quarterback drill. The grand finale of sorts. But the drill started off with the quarterback having to toss the rock about 40 yards (at least) into a basket positioned near the edge of a sort of end zone. From there, the quarterbacks had to weave through some hanging bags with the football in hand. Obviously that drill was designed to see if the quarterback could hang onto the football with contact involved. After a couple agility drills, the quarterback had to fire a bullet pass at a target about 20 yards away on the move. Well I can remember two of Vince Young's competitor's. Drew Olson and Brodie Croyle. I don't remember the third competitor, but there was one. But what I do remember is that Vince was the only one of the four that lofted a perfect pass into that basket. Then he took off through the drills and at the end he fired a strike on that target. As I remember, he was the only one to do that as well.

What this made to clear to me is this: Vince Young might not be picked first, but if he isn't picked second...some NFL GM's need their heads examined. Now I know the NFL's collective braintrust has seen this performance. At least, if they are worth a damn they have. On the strength of that performance, it should be enough for VY to bypass the combine, if he chooses. I am sorry, but Young can throw every pass any other potential draftee can throw right now. And in about a year, he will be able to throw any pass better than Cutler, Croyle, Leinart, Olson, etc. The kid is the goods, and the upside is ridiculous. NFL front offices aren't that stupid.

they do know and they say that he will have to change his throwing motion if he wants to play qb in the nfl. he doesn't want them to pick apart any more with an up close look. this is the smartest thing he has done. by not competing he is riding the hype from the bowl game to a top 3 or 5 pick
