Its on right now. TNT. I was watching it on NASCAR.com's TrackPass for a bit. They have it free right now.
I think during the offseason last year Rusty Wallace took the plate off in some of his testing at Talledega and ran somewhere around 228 mph.

that was at talledaga they let him run all out. Just think if they could have tuned on it some!
When they use the green house cars, maybe they will ditch the plates and do something else.
I will make my pick after the twins. :o

Shootout doesn't mean anything except some extra money. He's locked into the front row no matter what happens in these pre-races.

Yep, and nowadays they don't even use the same car.
Gordon woulda been a high pick for me, but I'll have to pick someone else.
Trying to decide if a DEI car has anything any more or not. They were so strong a few years ago, but lost a few steps. Jimmie J. could be a possiblility. hmmmm

everyone caught up to DEI a couple of years ago when they saw 4 big guys lifting a rear end housing into a car. When you have a spec rear spring say of 425 lbs, the less preload you have on it, the greater deflection you get with the same amount of down force. They filled their rear end housings with tungsten and since it's unsprung weight, the rear springs aren't carrying that 400 lbs when the car is setting at legal low quarter heights.......... Wham bam the quarters on the DEI cars were over 1" lower at speed than everyone else, the hillbillys prove again that somethings aren't as they seem with unsprung weight actually being a good thing in this instance.

Yeah, those guys can do some pretty crazy stuff to those cars and make them do amazing things. They constantly have to revamp the rules to prevent them from doing stuff like that. The Hendrick guys had some shocks outlawed last year because they "got around" the rules.

I can't believe that people actually think the car was allowed to compete in the daytona 500 with a cheated up rear glass that wouldn't fit the C3 template LOL. Hell Shelmerdine could have won the race in 20 more laps at the rate the fast cars were getting wrecked by the hot heads.
Taken from another board:
"The Cup cars go thru the body templates first...So the body passed on the 48 car when it went thru.... Next they check the suspension. The Track bar has a range of tolerance it can be in....the inspector told them they could raise it alittle and still be good. So this is where it went bad for them. They set the track bar low so the inspector would tell them they could raise it, the adjustment is what we all see thru the back window they always do. The 48 team had that tube go all the way down to the track bar so when they put the wrench thru it to raise the track bar the collar on the tube right under the window pushed up the rear window. Thus they made it thru inspection before going on track and not fitting the body templates after the race since the rear window was pushed up and looked "funny""
They say that the 48 had been doing this all last year and that an ex-crew member tipped off nascar before the race. :p

Its not like the cars in NASCAR can't reach those speeds. They are intentionally slowed down from going that fast. As stated in another thread, Rusty Wallace went like 238 mph at 'Dega during testing w/o a restrictor plate.

do it in just one lap....no warm up or "run up" for 3 laps....oh, and turn right for a change!
Nascar "racing" is a show to entertain rednecks...period. Drag racing is a game that rednecks can partake in because money is spent in short spurts.
Grand Am, World Challenge, Trans Am and the open wheel guys are FAR better Racers and put on a much better action show because it isn't about watching the "BIG WRECK". It's about the chess game of setting a guy up or pressuring him to the point of a mistake and taking advantage.

Hey now!! I drag raced my car for 2.5 years before I got me some edumacation! And did pretty darn good too....just couldn't ever beat Beej....
I would like to take my car down to hallsville though and see how fast it will go down hill! Might do pretty good given how light it is? Guess I should have done that before cage and fire system...would have been about 2950 race ready! Still think it would run a mid to low 12 on street tires though. ;)

See the nice thing about growing up in the Redneck environment is that I understand a few things you don't. Like the fact I am gonna have to bitch slap your yankee high cotton ass so you'll set down and shut up . The other thing is that education is key and although I respect open wheel and other forms of motor sports I don't make a habit out of degrading them or their fans. You on the other hand are showing just how ignorant you truly are. Let the "Hit me again Ike" birth slapping commence. No one drafted in races prior to NASCAR it was our very own North Carolinian Jr Johnson who figured out if he stayed on the bumper of Fireball Roberts, he could keep up with him at Daytona during a practice session. Drafting is now used in all forms of racing just ask Texan Lance Armstrong. Then let's go back to cart and Tony Stewart I figured you understand he used IRL as a stepping stone to a better racing series, i.e. NASCAR . I am expecting too much from you aren't I. Also did you know that Ryan Newman #12 is a degreed Engineer? I am a huge NASCAR fan and grew up in Virginia where it is king. I am currently attaining my graduate degree in Ed. Admin. So please don't assume that NASCAR fans are drunken rednecks.

Question for you.Since your bring up all kinds of racing what do u call dirt track racing? Redneck road racings.I for one am not a hick but, when i drove a late model i alway turned right and left too and never got going in straight line till i hit the brakes. So does that count for road racing. Not everyone is into road racing I think its kind of boring but, thats my opinion. Why agrue when ever sport writer say racing is not sport. It should be seeing that a typical driver is sitting in car for 3 to 4hrs sweat his ass for a couple hours.I don't ranting all in good fun.
