A lot of the time it boils down to who has the most money and how much you are willing to spend. Next it would depend on what car you are using and what you are willing to spend (again). Personally for a local class you can't beat T/S in the TTT5 organization. It is a good entry level class and there are some pretty damn cool people to talk to for the most part. You could be ultra-competitive with a nitrous/stock block/Mustang combo! It takes a good 5.8x to Win and a 6.0 to be competitive!
Late last season Roy Spencer set the class record with Tony Thorn driving - a 5.67 I believe or possibly a 5.63.. I can't remember which.

thats the problem with going to the track for me. i am finally starting to realize how dangerous the street is. the upside to the street tho is it is not that hard to be competitive. 500rwhp on the street is usually enough to be top dog most nights, although all you get is bragging rights. with 1000hp at the track it is hard to be competitive and win anything including money.

True
But it's nice not having to worry that there might be a cop at the other end of the road with a radar gun!!!
I used to love going street racing back in the late 90's. But I still have a lot of fun at the track.

thanks for the heads up on the TTT5 info. i have been looking it over since last night. i do think its gonna be hard to compete, but i would be willing to build up car the best i can and go for a weekend or two. im sure it will take some time to get the car set up to be competitive but it will be fun no doubt.

Bracket racing is so GAY
It's just not right when a race car has to give a mini van and 10 second head start!! Maybe I'm thinking about pinks!!! LOL

Which class depends on your racing you want to do.
Heads up style racing traditionaly costs the most to be competitive and rules are more specific (strict). Testing is more important and needed (more money and parts and wear and tear).
Brackets are easier to get into and cheaper and more plentiful locally, but its not for everyone. The rules are more safety and some class requirements (delay box vs footbrake stuff).
I enjoy brackets and index super class racing (fancy name for brackets). I dont have the money to compete for low e.t. of the world.
Basically it boils down to what you want to do. It is better to decide what type first before you build a car. Generally a good heads up car is not a good bracket car and vice versa.

the muscle car challenge is bracket racing for fun. they race on one or twice a month all around north texas. if you like bracket racing its a good way to learn cheap . the classes are broke down so you wont have to race a 9 sec.car with your 12sec car . http://www.tmccc.org/home.html
