We're not presently winning, but we're down by 1. We led for the 1st half but have been down 6-10 pts pretty much the entire 2nd half, but Dallas has made a run and closed to within 1...now 3 since I've started typing. 2 mins to go...going down to the wire.

TIE GAME!

Memphis missed a shot with 3 sec left and Dirk rebounded and ran out the clock.

Mavs now have a 10 game winning streak!

And Coach Avery was named coach of the month today after the Mavs went 13-2 in January. Lots of things going great right now.

GO MAVS!!

Man the Mavs are kicking ass. This rules. Too bad even when the games are on FSN I can't hardly pick them up because we have stupid Houston FSN down here in Austin.

Yep, it's a great time for Dallas sports right now. We have two teams that are legitimate title contenders.

Awesome game last night! I was really worried that last 5 minutes or so but the Mavs pulled through.

Interesting article about Avery Johnson on The DMN being named coach of the month award yet again. Not to mention he was recently the coach to win 50 games the fastest.

Johnson deflects attention

Coach of the month says awards are a reflection of the team

11:47 PM CST on Wednesday, February 1, 2006

By DAVID MOORE / The Dallas Morning News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Avery Johnson has won another coach of the month award, bringing the total in his brief coaching career to three.

And how many times did Johnson win player of the month in his 16 years in the league?

That would be none.
"They kind of let me know as a player what I was," Johnson said before the Mavericks defeated Memphis on Wednesday. "A role player.

"Role."

The Mavericks enjoyed the best January in franchise history with a 13-2 record, outscoring opponents by an average of nearly 10 points. The team ended the month with a nine-game winning streak to make up two-and-a-half games on San Antonio and enter February tied with the Spurs for the best record in the Western Conference.

Johnson also was named the conference Coach of the Month in November and April of last season. That means he has won the award three times in only four full months as a head coach.

This is becoming old hat.

"I don't think anything like that ever becomes old hat," Johnson said. "Again, whenever someone individually gets recognized, it's the way the team is functioning.

"We're not in the business of any self-promotion. It's all about the Mavericks, it's all about the team. I really mean that."

Do you guys believe that this could be the year for the Mavs to win it all?
How about the Stars?

I think they have the best chance of going all the way this year than they have had in previous ones but I think the odds are very slim.

One interesting thing I saw today was that the Mavs are now ranked Number 1 in the Western Conference followed by Phoenix, Denver, and then San Antonio. How did this happen with the Mavs and Spurs both at .783?

Suns are goin to be scarrrrrrrrry when Amere Stouadmire comes back..

Nash is playing Lights out MVP..he makes his whole team better..

One game he'll put up 12 Points and like 15 Assist

Next game he'll score 28 points and 9 Assist..

Actually, Dallas isn't ranked #1, we're still 4th. Here's a cool website by ESPN that shows how the playoffs would break down if they started today and it also lists all the tiebreaker scenarios at the bottom. The Spurs have the edge on us because they have presently have a better winning percentage within the conference. First tiebreaker is H2H matchups, then conference record, then division, etc. Oh, and the Division winners get the top 3 seeds. Even if you have a better record than the 2nd and 3rd ranked teams, you still get kicked down to 4th.

We held the #1 ranking briefly before the San Antonio game officially ended. It was kinda cool to see....then they won their game. :o

IF we dont I wonder what crazy off season moves will be made. I know its way too early to think of anything like that but Cuban just wants a title so he'll do what ever trades he thinks will get them the 'chip. But I do think they'll have a good chance this year. They can beat the Spurs and the Pistons.

But I do think they'll have a good chance this year. They can beat the Spurs and the Pistons. I don't think he'll do much of anything. I think he realizes now that the team needs a couple seasons together to really gel. They've got one helluva chemistry this year and the players that could be starting aren't causing a scene because they're in it for the big prize. If this team was around .500, we'd probably hear a lot of grumbling.
