International hockey usually isn't the same story as in the NHL, but most of those Russian players are really doing anything special right now. I can't even get started on Khabibulin.

I agree its not the same story, but the US doesn't exactly dominate in international hockey. As for Khabibulin, he's been a gross disappointment this season, no doubt about it, but it's like you said, it's not the same story. He may come out and dominate, he may continue his spare ways. They also have Nabakov, so if he starts out shakey, they have a capable backup.
Is Milan Hejduk Czech or Slovak? Budaj is a pretty decent goalie for as young as he is. I watched him live against the Coyotes and he was awesome. He made some very good saves and has a super fast glove hand. His only "bad" trait is that he doesn't come out of the net very far, leaving lots of holes to shoot through. He needs to work on coming out of the net more and cutting off angles. All he's gotta do is watch some Patrick Roy, Marty Turco, and Belfour film and mimic it.

The point you make there shows exactly why I wouldnt expect much from USA. Aside from a few the US isnt made up of the most fleet footed players, more grinders and such (if i remember correctly because I havent looked at the rosters in a while) The larger ice surface will exploit that. As far as Russia's goaltending, I would few alot more comfortable with Khabibulin in net then Eshe also. Im suprised players such as Kovalchuk and Ovechkin werent added into the Russian arguement either.

Hejduk is Czech i believe. Budaj is big so that doesnt nec. make it to where he has to be aggresive all the time. Think Potvin in his early years

I wasn't saying that Russia is gonna suck, just saying the players mentioned aren't exactly in their prime. Now Kovalchuk and Ovechkin...thats something. I still like Sweden just cause I'm a big Forsberg fan.

Yeah i wasnt saying you meant that it just seems some, mainly the high iqed dallasstars, is under estimating Russia. The mix they have of youth(Kovalchuk, Ovechkin, Datsyuk, Malkin, Afinogenov, Frolov) and older (Kovalev, Yashin, Kozlov, Gonchar, Khabibulin) I think they could be alot better than people want to give credit for.
Is Federov not on the Russian roster? I don't care what kind of stats he's got, he's still one of the best pure hockey players in the league. Hejduk is Czech, I looked on ESP...N. Budaj stays low from what I've watched. He likes to be squatted so he can explode side to side quicker. I used to play with Jim Schoenfeld's (sp?) boy who was a goalie in the DYHA Tier 2 league in AZ. He does the same thing....off topic though. I'm a huge Forsberg fan, die hard Avs fan, but still don't think Sweden will do that well. Besides Peter, Naslund, Sundin, the Sedin twins, Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Zetterberg, Alfredsson, Modin, Ohlund, and Lundqvist...who else do they have? ;)

Federov along with Zubov opted out of playing.
I remember hearing about Federov opting not to play, but it didn't cross my mind when I was typing that. Zubov would've done that crazy Commie team good.

I've talked about Federov dominating back in the day before and my friends jumped on me saying he's never been that great. And they said the same thing about Pavel Bure! If only I could take them back to the Genesis days of NHL 97. My brother and I used to always play Detroit vs. Vancouver.

Sounds like you have some smart friends. A guy who scored 60 goals twice, and over 50 4 or 5 times, yeah Bure isnt that good. Haha ask Churla what he thinks of Bure. Federov well he has the awards he can flash to show what he has done
Bure and Federov both have some kind of wicked goal scoring touch, unlike most NHL players EVER. Bure could practically score goals at will. The same could be said about Teemu Salanne pre Colorado Avalanche. Anyone who scores 76 goals as a ROOKIE is gifted.

Thought the unification of Kariya and Teemu would mean pure awesomeness....but resulted in piss poor seasons for both. I wish he'd go goal crazy right now while he's on my fantasy team. Needless to say, my fantasy team sucks ass.
Salanne has 25 goals, that's not too bad. He'll come back around. I don't care what the critics say, he's a sniper and a half and I'd take him on my team any day of the week. Kariya was doing well earlier this year, I guess he's quieted down.

I know some international rules of hockey, but I am curious if the new NHL rules are closer to the I.R. setup ... I know rink is bigger ..and things along those lines...not the fine details...anyone know?

Yes they are, two line passes are allowed, IR also have no touch up for icing.
It is more sideways hockey, very exciting and Russia 1 and basically Russia 1A are pretty good at that, so no matter what those players are doing in the NHL regular season, they will be tough and USA has a very difficult road to a medal.

The Russia v. Slovakia game was one of the fastest games I've ever seen. The transitions were absolutely SICK. I'm glad I TiVo'd all the games. I'll see if I can get you a copy of the game Hollywood.
