If you transferred them to your iPod from your computer, they should still be on your computer, unless you deleted them for some reason.

I dont know how to move the songs on your ipod and add them to your existing itunes but I am interested....

if its set to auto update youll have to turn it off, i know that much. because if it auto updates and you have files missing from itunes it takes them off the ipod as well. im sure theres a way to do what your asking but i dont know how, i just know from expriance that it wont autoupdate backwards

They had to be put on the iPod somehow, no? The default way of getting your music on an iPod is through iTunes, no? So if the songs were transferred from the computer, then they should still be on the computer... ie: no reason to transfer back from the iPod.

Now, if that's not the case (ie: not transferred from this computer, or songs gone due to hdd crash or something), then something like Anapod would be perfect.

I download my friends music on my iPod and transfer them to my hard drive. Then I load the songs into my music and add them to my iTunes.
