I recently bought and installed a add-on pci card for some 2.0 usb ports on my home pc and it seems to be locking up my pc on start up after the pc gets shut down after the install. Everything was working that was plugged into the new usb ports but after a restart the pc doesnt get past the windows loading screen, just goes black. So I open the case unplugged the new pci card and the pc starts like normal. Any thoughts of how I can fix this hardware conflict. Oh and in case its need to know info the pc is old i know but im poor- Its a P3 running windows XP pro service pack 2. Thanks Jason

If you just need more ports, it might be cheaper to buy a USB Hub.

This card was only like 15 bucks is a HUB around that or less?

Yes. I'll check and see if I have one at home, Jason. If I do I'll let you have it. I'll let you know tommorrow.

If you currently only have usb 1.0/1.1 this will not get you usb 2.0. I wanted the 2.0 for external usb drives as there is a big speed difference between them.

try moving the card to the very bottom of the motherboard (The furthest slot from the video card). I dont know why it matters but a tech told me once to move my NIC card to the bottom of the slots, and it worked. Dont know if it will work on the USB ports, but worth a try.

Alright cool Grant and yes i was wanting 2.0 usb ports to begin with (that was the reason i bought the card) but an extra one we work just fine too.
