Just curious if anyone has tried to quite their subscription. I had one for several years (3 or 4) and when I hurt my back, I quit going for about 9 months so I called and tried to cancel my account. Not happening. They told me that it was a "LIFETIME" subscription!
I told them that I haven't been in months and that I had an injured back and couldn't go but this hag tells me that there's only two way's to cancel an account.
1; get a doctor to write a note saying that you can't use any equipment in the facility - and this means the "therapeutic" pool.
2; you have to move 50 miles or more from any Bally's fitness center.
I told her that I would just stop payment from my bank. That wasn't going to happen either, bank told me that I was under contract and that Bally's is the only one who could stop it, but after a visit with the supervisor, they stopped it. Now, Bally's is trying to get $240.00 dollars from me - and, they've screwed up my credit.
Thinking of trying 24 Hour Fitness, or maybe LA Fitness on Denton Hwy.

I take it that that is for a year's subscription? If so, that's not to bad when considering what I was paying a Bally's. I was paying $74.00 a month for me and my daughter and after $3500.00+/- had been paid it was supposed to go down to 10 or 15 dollars a month.

Stay away from Bally's. FAR AWAY!
They have more BBB complaints about billing problems than any other fitness club in the country.

I've been with Ballys since '88 and so has my mom and sister.. My dad has been with them since the early 70s. I was paying 4.50 a month back then and now its almost 20 a month. They have increases of 10% a year or $2 a month.. whichever is greater  .. My membership is a premier plus which means I can use all facilities in any Ballys anywhere. They dont even have their own 800 number.. whata bunch of crap.. I'm seriosly thinking of dropping them soon.

Good luck! Read your contract (the tiny little print on the bottom of the back page) it says "lifetime contract".
When I was trying to cancel mine she told me that I should have read the contract more carefully, and I said "yeah, all 9 pages with eleventybillion words in micro print"! She was correct, I should have read the entire contract before signing but my argument was, the sales rep that was pressuring me to sign (so he could get to his training appointment) should have told me that THIS IS A LIFETIME CONTRACT and getting out of it is next to impossible!

Uhh I don't know what kind of contract you have but My contract can be a 6 month or yearly contract. I renew every 6 months hoping for a "promotional" deal.. after 6 months I can cancel and never go back with no penalty. I go to the one off Campbell and 75 (DFW headquarters for Ballys) and now almost all the trainers and management there. My cousin started his membership in '91 and cancelled due to traveling all the time. No questions asked. I think you're getting screwed!! Of course you must be a "new" member cause I havent had to sign shit at Ballys since I can remember..Its up to me if I wanna drop or renew.. But thanks for letting me know this cause if I get a promotional offer, they will probably make me sign something and i'll be looking out for what you pointed out.

Not new, my contract was signed back around summer of `01. I signed up at the one on Hwy 26 in (I think) Carrolton. I'm betting they have several different types of contracts and just caught me with the BIGGIE! It was my first health club contract so I didn't have any experience to gauge against.
