I have a Sony PCG GRT 100 laptop and the screen got broken. I have the extended warranty but the best Sony can do is 788 and that is with parts/labor/taxes/shipping. I just told them to send it back. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement screen and just install it myself. I have the upgraded resolution screen.
Thanks,
Eric

yep those screens are the most expensive part of a laptop. might be time to consider an upgrade?
Here's a site that lists the lcd's
http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Sony,Vaio,PCG-GRT,Laptop,Partslist.aspx
low end is 400+ for the 14" screen and goes up to 1100-1200

2nd vote for ebay. I've just about totally rebuilt my latitude from ebay parts for a lot cheaper than what dell wants. As an example, dell wanted $580 for a refurb motherboard and i picked up one from ebay for $89. Dell wanted about $65 for a keyboard, got it for $30 from ebay and it's a better keyboard than the dell OEM one (of which i've gone thru several, they last about 6 months).

What model latitude do you have? My 610 still has the original keyboard, and I abuse the hell out of it. I've had it for 2 years.

definately ebay! I bought several non-working laptops for the screens cheap and fixed up mine and then built a couple more good ones with the parts!

Thanks for the replys. I though about the upgrading part but the new one would 1800, and I just cant swing that much money right now.
Also when I purchased my laptop I paid for the screen upgrade. I think it is like the XSGA or something. Resolution is 1480x1200. I saw some 1200x768 screens but that is not the one I have on my system now.
The laptop itself is in great shape, just the screen.
Thanks,
Eric

I found a place, www.screentek.com. I have the higher resolution SXGA (1400x1050) screen. They have it in stock, new never used for 455.00. It is like 380.00 with a tax certificate.
Does anyone have one? I would pay a "usage" fee to the person.
Thanks,
Eric
