Console Mod chips question

back when ps1 was still "it" even before N64 was out, i was told that the main reason
people modded their ps1's was so that they could go and rent games and then burn 'em and be able to play the burned version. is this still the main reason people mod consoles? just curious i guess.

Thats the only reason Im aware they do it. Just so you can buy burned games and play them.Thats it

There's more legitimate reasons for modding, even back in the PS1 days. Some people want to be able to import games (ie: japanese only releases, that never made it over here), but a US PS1 won't play japanese imports without a mod chip.

Now, with the Xbox there's a whole world of software available for the Xbox, to use it in more ways than just playing import games/movies.

Do people pirate games? Yeah. But it's not the only reason to mod (well, at least not for everyone.)
