I have a 160GB Western Digital Hard drive that the SMART has failed. I need to get some of the data off of it. Any tools that I can use to access it without booting it up. Anyone else have the ability to get the data off? I can bring a spare 160 to put the data on It is mostly MP3 but there is outlook data I need off of it as well.

Anyone can help?

If you cant boot it, you have to use a data recovery service and thats somewhere between $1500 and $3000.

Are you sure you cant install it as a slave drive and boot from another to pull your data?

Data recovery in OKC quoted 450 and I have tried as a slave drive the bios kept stating SMART enabled but failed so it would bypass it.
Is there a BIOS setting that will not use the SMART enabled or do I need to use an older bios from an old Win95 machine to use as a slave to get the data off.

You can turn off smart in your bios.

I tried the WD tools and that was what informed me it was a SMART failure. I will try and find the SMART portion of the BIOS to turn it off. Drive is warrantied I just want to get the data before I ship it out.

Thanks for the help guys another set of eyes is alway helpful when the wife is crying.
