Mobil 1.
That's what I was thinking about using. Are you guys using just regular automotive Mobile 1 or do they offer anything different for motorcycles?

They do have a motorcycle version but the car version has served me just fine, plus its cheaper.
I use Mobil 1. When I tried the 15w-50 the bike felt down on power, so now I use 10w-30 or 10w-40.

I always ran 15w-50 Red Cap in my R1. Be careful when running automotive oils, though as most popular weights, 10w-30, 5w-30, etc, are generally Energy Conserving, which means the oil has friction modifiers that will make your clutch slip.
*you can tell, because on the back of the bottle, in the seal looking circle, it will say EC, if it's not, then it will say some other b.s.*

They no longer have the red cap. It has changed to a gold cap and that's the kind I use. I am using the 15w-50. It went up a little in price, but still the best d@mn oil you can find IMO.

Is the oil dealers use on 1000cc bikes synthetic? Does it make a big difference if I use regular oil in my R1 v.s. using synthetic oil?

I use the Silkolene 10-40 synthetic blend. Seems to work good for me.

Rotella T is one of the best... yea I know I work for Shell.
as much as I hate it when hes right ol Adam is correct when running auto oils.
The Rotella T and syn Rotella T are not EC oils and therefore are ok to use in wet clutch bikes.
One problem, as soon as the formulation changes to CJ-4 you cannot use the Rotella T in your bike so be carefull what you buy after Oct 15.
I run what the bike came with but probably should run the Rotella or Advance.
Pm me if you guys need a hook up on the Advance. Its not sold in the US but I think I can get enough for us.

Mobil 1 MX2T, or Mobil 1 racing 2T (2 stroke dirt bike)
best deal for 2 strokes - Silkolene synth is $12 - $14 at bike shop, Mobil 1 $6.99 at Auto Zone
oh - I use Motul 10-40, or 10-30 in the tranny. or Bel Ray 80 weight gear oil.

I use 70w in the engine and trans. Now that the weather is cooling I'll switch to 60w. And if it gets cold enough I'll drop it down to a 50w. Too hard to kick start it with thick oil and cold weather.

Maybe this will help.... If I had the money I would run Amsoil but instead I run Rotella T. 25k on a 2002 Yamaha Warrior with no problems thus far. And I have a wet clutch and no slippage.

Nothing but Amsoil 10/40 goes in the VTX. Its expensive at almost $60 for oil and filter but its the best bar none.
