I've been wondering what this Scientology stuff was all about but thanks to websenseless, I can't. I just want some basic information. What they worship, how it came into being, why all it's members are idiots, etc... Just bored and looking for some entertaining reading.

In a nutshell:
The intergalactic emporer Xenu banished thetans, a race of aliens, to Earth billions of years ago. Once on Earth, the thetans essentially went into hibernation, in order to hide their existance from Xenu, until humans started to appear, so the thetans started inhabiting human bodies. By studying Scientology, you're able to better understand the thetans inhabiting your body, and get them to respond to your commands. Once your reach "clear", you've reached an awareness of the thetans within you, beyond that there are various levels of thetan control... and the ability to heal people, levitate or fly, teleport, travel through space to other parts of the galaxy, etc. The higher your thetan level, the more you can do. For example, Tom Cruise is Thetan 4, and just by touching someone, he can heal them of whatever afflicts them.
When you get out of work, do some more research... these people are jacked up, not just in their beliefs, but in the things they do... waging war with the IRS, buying out groups that oppose scientology and promote awareness of what scientology is all about, their several cruiseliners that are constantly moving around the world in international waters... and the people that get on the boat (often forcefully), but never get back off...

L. Ron Hubbard...wrote "Dianetics". He rebuked Scientology as a religon...

From their website:
Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The Scientology religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these:
Man is an immortal, spiritual being. His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized — and those capabilities can be realized. He is able to not only solve his own problems, accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also achieve new, higher states of awareness and ability.

I've never heard that he rebuked it as a religion. In fact, he's quoted as saying "You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion."
