Yes, xbox is releasing 2 different versions. Since all the games are coming out on Nov 22nd, i would gather thats the launch date. Give or take a few days.

go to www.gamespot.com they have a comparision on the 2 versions. Im gonna get the 299 once since i already have a headset and the extra stuff it offers. I really dont play games for the games, but for the online play so i won't need the extra 20Gig to save games on.

Except... without the hdd, you won't be able to play the original games. Hope you still have your original Xbox around for those.

The extra 100 bucks for the premium one is very worth it, if you buy the base model you will still need to buy a $30-40 memory card, plus a subscription to xbox live (if you dont already have one). Those two things together will set you back at least another 75 bucks. So at that point its already more econmical to buy the premium one :D

Not to mention the $99 hdd add on you'll need if you want to play your old Xbox games. :)

The only game i play on xbox is RB6:lockdown which im gettin rid of very soon. I'll trade my old ones in on the new ones. I think you can get the base model, and buy the hd seperately. The other stuff like head set, wireless controller, and media remote arent that big of a deal. I got a handfree deal for my cel phone plugged into my deal as of now. Ive been playin w/ wires since the begining of the console, so that sure as hell isnt gonna kill me. I got a dvd player...i dont need the 360 to play my dvd's/music.

So... let's break down the cost for you, and maybe you'll then understand why the $400 package is the better deal.
Cheap version: $299, includes a wired controller, and standard a/v cables.
Plus HDD add-on: $99.
So... $398 = Xbox+Hdd
More expensive version: $399, includes wireless controller, memory card, remote for DVD, head set, Xbox live subscription, HDD, component a/v cables.
Now... being that you're going to get the HDD anyway, doesn't it make more sense to just get the $400 bundle, even though you may not care for the other stuff... you're gonna be spending the $400 regardless if you buy the HDD seperate... so there's really no reason not to get the $400 bundle.
The only reason I can see someone getting the $300 bundle is if they never plan on getting the HDD. I assume there's probably a few people out there that won't get the HDD, but most people are going to want it... not just for backwards compatability, but for the media center elements ... and modding, obviously.

the only thing i would need extra is the memory card then. i don't need Xbox live, nor do i have any xbox games. there really isn't a need for me to spend the extra cash though.

Well right now Live is bein fucked up, its sayin my MTU's aren't set properly in my router. So i go in and check it and its set at 1500, live requires 1365. So my transfer units are above what it needs and its never done this before. So at the current moment im not too happy w/ Live. Back to the deal, the only thing that the 400 one has that i dont already have is the HD. Like i said i dont need the remote, i got a audio system and a dvd player in my loft already.
