Why can't you just go with comcast?
I have comcast and I don't even have a house phone.

I played for a good 4-5 months with dial-up, both on WoW and FFXI. There was lag, but it wasn't too terrible. Never had any problems with parties. Crowded cities were pretty bad though.

Hrm. When I had comcast, I have low 45~ pings with packetloss. Then I get banned from comcast for downloading way too much (500 gigs in 2~ weeks) When we got dsl, Id play battlefield with 30~ ping with no packetloss. Plus everything surfed ALOT faster, NO down at all either. Plus the bill was cut in half but so was the download speed but I can live with that.

doubt it is my computer, Im currently running 1.5 gigs of Mushkin ram and a Radeon X800 pro 256mb card. I was talking about this to one of my buddies up here who plays WoW and he said he tried dialup and it was decent but he couldnt go into any highly populated place without it booting him.

Yeah, whenever I'd hearth back to Org, I'd get booted while on dialup.

The high pop lag is definitely not based on the computer (unless you've got a way low-end computer). I get some chop in Orgrimmar while people are being downloaded from the server, whether I play on my 1.6GHz/1.2Gig ram/GeForce 6800 laptop, or my 3GHz/1Gig ram/Radeon 9600XT desktop. Even turning all graphics down as far as I can, and lowering resolution.

I typically play on both systems with graphics up all the way (except for full screen glow), and 1280x1024 (desktop) or 1280x800 (laptop), and it stays pretty solid at 50 - 60 fps, regardless of location. Occasionally I'll bump up to 1600x1200/1920x1200 for shits and giggles, and it's pretty consistent at 30 - 40 fps regardless of location.

so i finally started playing last night, and no lag at all, did freaking great, i was amazed, although i did have to go to a buddies house to get all my patch updates and played on his comp(broadband) and went home and figured it would be horrible and to my surprise it wasnt bad at all
