Iv been trying to find someone to go jogging around Benbrook lake with me for a while. I asked one of my friends if he wanted to go run cause he runs 2-3 times a week. He told me no because his calf is hutrin once he gets to about 1 1/2-2 miles. I start asking him about it and I ask what routine he does when he streches, warms up and cools down? He told me that he doesnt strecth at all he just starts running. I told him that youve gotta strech or youll end up hurting yourself. SO he tells me "Idont beieve in streching". I asked him if he believes in pulling muscles and sports injuries. He just looked at me like "what the hell is that suppost to mean".
What a tool.Yall know anyone like that?

I know plenty of people who don't stretch before running. Many just gradually work there way up to the speed they run at.

Actually, the best method is to do a warm-up, then stretch and then do your workout (run, lift weights, whatever).

From what Iv read the best method is to stretch after you wake up, walk a short distance then stretch before your workout. After your workout do a cool down lap or short walk if your lifting and lightly stretch.

You can pull muscles even if you don't stretch. From what I understand, your lazy ass is bitching about someone who's actually running just because he doesn't stretch.

I found out personally after years of running in the military that my legs felt much better without serious stretching.I would follow this regimem and never had any problems with pulls.

My lazy ass runs 4.2 miles every other day for the last couple of years. Make sure youve got good info before you decide to chime in with some stupid ass remark

Well one thing i learned in the military is that its not all about distance. Its about the amount of time you run at your optimum heart rate. You'll burn more calories and get more of a workout.

Every other day? So you're only a lazy ass the other days.
I usually run 2.5 miles 4 or 5 times a week. I don't stretch. I get up out of bed, drive to the gym, walk for two minutes at 4mph and then go up to full speed.
I also don't really stretch before I lift unless it is something involving heavy weights and my lower back and legs.

From what i read in the mens journel the only benifets from streatching is just that, you get a longer stride after a while, but it does not prevent injuries like torn muscles.
Then again dont believe everything you read right....

I dont run to loose weight or try to develop muscle. I run to increase stamina and lung capacity. About twice a week Ill run speed drills. When I run the 4.2 miles the last .2 miles Ill run as fast as I can.

Stretching won't prevent tears. But it can help to prevent pulls and strains (not that it will absolutely prevent them).
In general, it's not too terribly necessary to stretch if you are just jogging.
With that said, I stretch after warmup and after cooldown every time because I need the flexibility.
