Sounds pretty badass what they are doing. I saw construction last time I was out there but thought nothing of it. Looks like there might be some more interesting combinations next year :D
Quoted from the CMRA boards:
I just recieved this email from Jack today concerning the new track at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson.
Dear MotorSport Ranch Member:
If you have been to the Ranch in the last few months, you may have noticed
the myriad of heavy equipment in operation. After months of moving dirt,
installing culverts under the track, sculpting the land to handle water drainage and
vehicle runoff, installing a thousand foot long French drain, hauling and
applying and compacting 20,000 tons of road base material..... the second track
- called the West Track (approx 1.3 miles) is ready for paving to begin next
week!
The existing track - let's call it the East Track consists of the following:
1.7 miles long
40 feet wide
30 feet of elevation change
11 turns (3 of which are off-camber)
The new track - the West Track
1.3 miles long (approx.)
39 feet wide
70 feet of elevation change
8 turns (none of which are off-camber)
The two tracks can be run totally independently of each other - each track
has its own pit road. Even a covered grid will be built for the new West Track.
The two courses can be linked together to form a 3+ mile long course, one of
the longest road courses in North America. Even the pit roads will be
connected when running the 3+ mile course. This will triple the amount of pit road
area that currently exists on the 1.7 mile tracks.
Both tracks can be run clockwise or counterclockwise, as can the 3+ mile
course - giving us SIX combinations of road courses.
What this means is: more member days, more variety, more outside events, and
even driving schools on weekends.
Weather depending, paving will take about 10 days. While it is curing,
installation of curbing, fencing, etc. will take place. Said track should be ready
for full operation between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I will keep you posted of the developments.
Best regards,
