Just found this duc--

2002 DUCATI 998 Monoposto, RED, Termi carbon pipes ECU, lots of Carbon Fiber, swing arm stand, fender eliminator, Ohlins rear, light weight race battery, great condition, garage kept, never been raced, front rear master cylinders recenty replaced, 100 miles on the rear tire. Always used Motul 300V full synthetic - last oil change 100 miles ago. Same engine as the 999/999s, so why buy a 916 or 996? 16k miles - had all the scheduled maintenence - new belts, valve adjustments done recently, new chain and sprockets. Its more or less ready to go. Ive got a ton more pics -

asking $9500, high, about right?

Sounds like a good price to me. But I don't see why people buy and ducati and then mod it and never race it?

As much as I hate to say it I would much rather have that then a new liter bike that you would pay at least 10k for.

I'm 5'10 and 140....the lighter you are..the more fun you would have on a liter bike. Ducatis are Vtwins though, so power is closer a inline 600...Torque on the other hand... :D

Im like 6'2 145. Being light does have its advantages. But I would still like to put on a few sometimes to be able to woop some azz. :(

This is a 998. So power will be comparable to a 750, not a 600. A 748 wold be comparable to a 600 ;)

$9500 for a 16k mile bike? Thats a little on the high side I think. You can get a 6 or 8k mile bike for around 10,000-11,000. If it's been taken care of, it will last well into the 50k mile mark. But if not, then don't look for it to last very long. Duc's are very sesitive to maintenance. You can beat on them all you want, but just take care of her with the maintenance and she will last a long time ;)
Is this his asking price, or have you talked him down already? I wouldn't go any higher then about $8500 with that many miles.

<--------Duc owner :D And I'd be proud to have you in my group! :D:D:D

Thanks for correcting me...never seen dyno sheets, I just assumed the difference in the way they feel was in the Torque numbers. But yea, $9500 would be a little high. And the thing about ducatis and maintaince is a big deal. Make sure you can afford to maintain it before you go buying one. Also, before you buy one, make sure the owner has kept up with maintaince.

Valves have to be adjusted every 6000 miles, and belts have to be replaced every 12,000 miles. For me, it's worth the extra cash in maintenance to have one of the best handling bikes I have ever been on.
You can save yourself some money by doing most of the mainenance yourself. The 6k service includes changing all fluids, and adjusting valves and checking belt tension, and it's priced at about $600-$800 depending on which dealer you chose. Change the fluids yourself, and just have them adjust the valves and adjust belt tension, and you can get out of there for about $300 if you remove all of the fairings and make their life as easy as possible.

If you have never owned a Ducati, and want some more info. Fell free to PM me or we can meet up sometime. I am a very satisfied Ducati owner!

I went by Eurosports Cycle in Fort Worth the other day and they had 2 used 748's sitting out front. I know they are smaller bikes, but they were cheaper if I remember correctly.

He has it priced right between low and average which is a good place to start.I wasn't taking into account the extras but the miles are high for that style of bike.

That is a much better bike than the 996.I personally think it is a little overpriced but 998's aren't running all over the place so someone may take it.

They are ok they just look freakin huge. A duc looks freakin narrow even though its prolly not all that light.
