Say the light is red and there are 10-12 cars in each of 2 lanes going straight and you on a bike pull up between the 2 rows of cars to get through faster

Im probably wrong but i was under the impression as long as the traffic is sitting still its legal in Texas. but as soon as it starts to move again you have to merge back in with traffic. But like i said dont know for sure

I wa in LA seeing my sister and we were sitting in LA traffic and there were bikes justing cruising along between the lanes going about 20-30 mph and scared the piss out of me the first time...

Around here I have had guys lane split me and other vehicles going down the freeway at my speed of 70 mph... people like that give bikes bad images!

Everytime someone has opened their door to stop me in deep ellum...they close it back real fast when I make a fist at em. I dont lane split at 30mph either though..just kinda walk up between the cars when they're stopped.

lane splitting aka lane sharing is simply sharing a lane with a car at the same time. We do it here in SoCal due to the traffic congestion and heat, more often than not your going to be stuck in some sort of traffic (gridlock, slow drivers), so you share a lane with a car as you pass them. The technical answer of is lane sharing legal or illegal in Cali is there is no answer, it's neither legal or illegal. Many people have come to believe that it is legal just due to the sheer amount of bikers that do lane share everyday. Generally you're not going to get pulled over for lane sharing unless your being stupid about it (excessive speed, splitting semi's) or unless the cop is an ass. Hope this helps.

Isn't there also a law in Texas that states a motorcycle can ride down the shoulder at 15 MPH or less? Was thinking it had soemthing to do with an old law cause bikes would overheat in traffic.

I thought there was a law that states that if traffic is moving at 30mph or less you can lane split but not in excess of 10 mph faster than the flow of traffic?
