Too tired/sore/banged-around to explain it all right now, but I wrecked trying to avoid my buddy's wreck in a construction area on 635. He went into a tank slapper after going over some rough concrete. He went down and his bike went the other way. I tried to avoid hitting him, but I hit some "city titties" while on the brakes. I only had one lane to work with, lined with construction barrels, and ended up low siding right behind him. My bike still ended up hitting him unfortunately, but we are both doing okay considering how bad it could have been. Thanks go out to TRAXX and Andrew for helping us out, loading the bikes, etc.
My gear saved my skin and possibly my life. The back of my helmet is all torn up, my jacket has holes and scrapes, and the palms of my gloves are worn down. WEAR YOUR GEAR! I've been riding bikes many years and never so much as dropped one, and this happened. You never know when it's your turn!! I wear my helmet/jacket/gloves all the time, even on my 30 mile commute each way to work in the hot sun. Anyway, I'm off to bed. Y'all be careful out there!!

Thanks guys! I'm doing okay, my buddy is a little worse for wear since he didn't have a jacket on. I wasn't really following too close, and I was staggered in the lane with him, I was toward the left side of the lane, he was toward the right. It happened right in front of me, and there was a car inching up behind me, so I didn't have a whole lot of escape routes unfortunately!:( Main thing is, I'll be okay, bikes can be replaced, and I'll work on the sympathy poon factor at Party Cove today.:)

Damn! Your buddy wasn't wearing any gear? What exactly where you wearing and how did it hold up. I always like to hear how well gear protected people in a crash.

Damn man, I got home from work after Trev called, and saw the bikes, and was like< " oh shit, what happened', then Trev explained it.
Sorry to hear you went down, but it could have been alot worse for both of you. Bikes can always be fixed man.

Sucks that you went down man. Esecially on someone elses fall. What happened to your friend to just get a tankslapper out of no where? Was he getting on it? I don't think I've ever had a tank slappers just riding normal, but I have seen a couple bikes with crappy front tires do it out of no where before.

It was a construction zone, uneven concrete, with chunks missing on 635. It was a pretty fucked up deal. I took some pics of the street, I'll try and post up later but I'm not at the house. I'm just glad I walked away, that's it. The little items can be replaced, lives cannot. My buddy and I walked(limped lol) away, and that's all that matters. I really don't care about the bike, I just didn't want to run my friend over, and I ran to him and pulled him out of the road first thing, before I even looked at my bike. I never want to hear the sound of plastic breaking and scraping on the ground again, it's the most helpless feeling in the world! Y'all be safe and please wear your jackets and gloves, my friend's hands and arms look like crap, and it didn't have to be that way. I know everyone feels like they are invincible and it will never happen to them, but it can. I've got several thousand miles under my belt personally, and this happened. Be careful everyone!

He just had a helmet, jeans, and a short sleeve shirt on. I had a jacket, pretty thick leather gloves, helmet, jeans, and Sketcher boots on. I normally have my Sidi boots on if I'm just out riding or running errands, but going out and going to work, I wear my Sketchers. My feet are fine, my shoulder and arm is a little bruised/banged around. My hip is bruised pretty good, looks like I got hit by a softball real hard or something, and my knee is scraped-up a bit from where my Eddie Bauer jeans ripped. My knee is the only "rash" I've got, and it really isn't too bad. I'll post pics of my gear and whatnot in the next couple days.

How did your jacket hold up? What brand was it and was it leather or mesh? How fast were you going when you went down?
Again man, glad you and your friend are OK. Like you've said, material things can be replaced. But you cannot.

Hardest part about wrecking is getting over the instinct to put your hands out. Ball up, let your gear take care of ya. Took me a few dirtbike crashes to learn that :o

Okay, here's sympathy poon pics from last night. Second pic is kinda dark, but oh well. That's me on the raft(with the bandaged up knee) with the three chicks from the first pic. Thanks go out to torchredstang for snapping the pic!:) The third pic was a tunnel-rammed SBC in a jetboat, and yes, that's a turbocharger and BOV you see..... Guy said it made 650HP at the prop, and I really have no reason to believe it didn't!
Jose,
It was a "Suzuki Racing" jacket, a waterproof polyester/nylon with beefed up elbows/shoulders/etc. I don't have it here at my house, I left my gear with the bike over at TRAXX's place. It's not a mesh jacket, its got a zippable liner for winter and whatnot, so it's a thicker material. I'll get all the info and pics next time I'm over at Trevor's place. It has one small hole where it wore through on my arm, the palms of my gloves are pretty worn, and the back of my helmet is scraped.

Damn... the raft pic kinda sucked... sorry.. it was pitch black and i couldn't really see anything... plus i was pretty buzzed so that might have had somehting to do with it. Guess we will have to get some better pics today at PC! I still can't believe how I inflated that raft and just dropped it in the water and chicks instantly started jumping on it. Freaking awsome!

It's a situation that can occur when the front wheel becomes unbalanced and starts oscilating left and right uncontrolably (sp?). I've seen a few videos online and experience a mild tank slapper on occasions and it will scare the shit out of you when it happens

Heck yeah. Yesterday at the track coming out of the bottom of 3 as I was sitting the bike up to set up for the next corner under hard acceleration I got a pretty good twitch out of her. But shes pretty stable about tank slappers for not having a dampner at all. People with front tires that are worn out or cupped and suspension that isn't set right will get it all the time. It sucks.
