i guess im looking for the pro-s and cons of both
ill be looking for a 2000-2003 model yzf or gsxr. my brother has an 03 yzf-600r and i like it alot, pulls some gsxr's :) but i havent ridden an r6 yet. are they 100% diffrent bikes? why would yamaha make 2 bikes for the same category and the same size?
thanks.

they're not in the same category, they are just the same displacement.
the R6 is the street faired "racebike", the 600R is the full faired grocery getter, big comfy seat, comfy ergonomics, "tuned for midrange (I.E. WEAK) engine".
there is nothing that is worthwhile on the 600r to me besides the price.

03' was the first year for fuel injection, 03 and up will flat out fly. My 03 R6 (now Evil Jose's bike) did a fastest pass of 109 in the 1/8th and 133 in the 1/4. topped about 167-170 when it ran out of steem. I never got beat by another 600......ever.......and I raced many. ;)

they are pretty close when it comes to the motor. the 600R is just a de-tuned R6 setup more for the street. Overall, the 600R is just one step down in pretty much every category. Its a little more comfortable and relaxed. If its gonna be primarily for the street, I say go 600R. If all you care about is what other people think and shit, get an R6

Not what other people think at all, what HE thinks he wants it for. It's like buying a V6 Camaro vs a Z28...... They look a lot alike but the performance is quite a bit different. Everything is going to have plenty of power and looks, it just depends on how far you wanna take it and at what pace you typically excel (sp?) at things.

I had a 600R. It was my first bike. I like it alot but I got tired of it pretty quick and was quickly ready to move up.
600r pros: comfortable seat
cons: heavy
not enough horsepower. was pretty fast when I had it, but wasn't enough after a few months.
just my .02

performance is quite a bit different? its not that big of a change. the 600R and the R6 is more like a Mach 1 and an '03 Cobra. The 600R isnt as far off as you make it and being a better rider can definately close the gap. Personally if the bike was purely for the street, i'd get a 600R and ride in relative comfort and still be able to hit the twisties

I guess you know everything now "King of all motorcycle knowledge"........lol. The 600r is not even fuel injected. Your point about the better rider could catch the R6 is totally retarted, what if the better rider was on the R6 ?? Then what ? The 600r falls even further behind..... ;)
Like I said you get what you want and have an Idea what your capabilities are before you pick out the bike for you, if the $1000.00 price difference is the issue then you have no choice, it's the 600r. For the money the R6 is hands down the best bang for the buck......IMO, and I have rode quite a few bikes and what I have not rode I have definitely raced.

id say the performance is quite a bit different. to me, the 600r is a sport TOURING bike, and the r6 is the actual sportbike. 600r is like yamaha's better looking version of a katana.

600r always felt heavier than a R6 to me. Definately lacking in the power department to an R6. R6 would be good for a daily if ur not 40 years old and having back problems. If comfort really is a priority get a cruiser. Onebadwagon on here rides a R1 daily..and he doesnt complain about it. I'm pretty sure you will get used to riding one...learn to lay on the tank for long rides and figure out how to stretch out.

It's about 1200, the 600r is right at $7,100 and the R6 is $8200.00.

lol... man you guys are out of touch with reality. either that or you're seriously lacking in some departments. its like having a porsche, only guys with lil' dicks have em. :) fact of the matter is, they all have 2 wheels, and any sportbike can roll on one wheel, even a 250r. i've done it. ;) i'll wave to any motherfucker on a motorcycle, i dont care if its a harley or a busa or a ninja 250, they're out there riding and having fun. thats what it all comes down to, not how big the engine is or how "bad ass" you look on it.

I work on bikes for a living.....probably a 80lb difference in weight. The 600r is for people who want to feel like they're on a sporty bike..but cant stand the way a sporty bike feels. R6...its a race bike with headlights and turn signals. The difference is night/day. Once you've been on an R6 you wont want anything to do with a 600r.

hey bro, what i'd suggest is find somebody with an r6, go for a ride, ride the 600r again, and make your choice yourself. is the 600r enough to get stupid and kill yourself with? YES. it also gives you a bit of cushion, so that you can make a mistake and get away with with something that you might not on a high performance bike such as the r6.
OH, and btw, chicks arent gonna give a SHIT about it.. as long as it remotely resembles a sportbike, they'll dig it. hell, i was bringing in chicks with the 250r, and i was like, oh come on that thing is retarded looking, and they loved it. i guess it was the lime green?

2. If you actually have something to offer chicks will come regardless of what you're rolling.

That's true and to tell you the truth I will prolly never drag a knee on the street. Track only. But the bike is a good 80 lbs heavier. Thats my thing I hate heavy bikes and I don't like the fact they are carbed. True the bike will cost less but when you go to resale both of them the R6 won't lose anymore value then that other bike will so you might as well just spend the extra cash on the R6. It will be worth more when you go to sell it.

Dragging knee on the street is just asking for it. Track only is definately the way to go. Its too easy to be railing a corner and come up on a patch of dirt the size of a beer coaster and youre gone. the 600R is a fun bike to ride though, my friend got one because he was impatient and he wanted a bike he could afford cash. If you can get the R6 get it, but the 600R is still much better then a Katana or a Ninja500

The 600R is a shit ton cooler than any Katana. Period. I knew a guy that rolled one a while back, he had a few minor things done to it, was a pretty good looking bike and he didn't have hardly any money invested in it, painted it himself, that sort of thing. I wouldn't raise my nose to highly at them, plenty good a bike for lots of riders out there, just not for me.

R6 is about the best 600 money can buy. The YZF-600 is basically an OLD R6 from a few years back (I read that in a magazine and was told that at a Yami shop). The R6 is fuel injected and weighs less...the YZF is carbed and pretty hefty for a modern 600. The R6 has the riding posture of a track bike....it will wear you out after a few miles. The YZF has a more comfortable riding posture and the seat is WAY more comfortable for long rides. If I were picking one for overall riding..having owned a CBR F3 and now my present Blackbird 1100..I would probably get an R6 solely based on looks...aint nothing else out there comparable..the R6 is just a badass bike. The YZF 600 is a good bike..but it should be EFI like the CBR600 F4i...which is about the perfect do everything bike.
I wouldnt be interested in anything of the GSXR line or the ZX line...Im just not impressed with the quality and dependability. Yamaha and Honda rule the roost for best built bikes.

Ya, the YFZ uses an older (heavier) frame, older motor, brakes, suspension components, etc. Here is good article on the YZF.

6.9 is not bad for a 600. Most are about 7.1 - 7.4 - 100-104mph. Jose's bike is a freak at 108-109 MPH. It got faster every trip, Just when I thought it had made it's fastest pass it pulled a rabbit out of it's ass and went faster.

How comes it's pretty fun to see if you can get faster. And the first turn on the return road is pretty fun to see how hard you can brake into it. :D
I'm sure if I had a programmer and sprocket and could keep the front it would run a lot faster. Its trapped 107 once and most of the time it traps 106ish.

No drag racing the Duc. Sorry :D
And Jose, we wouldn't want you in our little group anyways ;) Wait, since Elvis sold his Vtwin, am I the only one with one now? Am I a group of one?
:p
